Mary,
A very cogent point. I lived in Pittsburgh for 8 years and well remember some of the Western PA language oddities. For example, the local NFL franchise is known in those parts as the "Stillers." _________________ Be well,

Huh. I always thought everyone was looking for killer weed. Maybe I misunderstood them. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Bob,
NO! Yunz lived in the 'burgh? That's my hometown. It took me YEARS to stop saying "gumbans". _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Bob,
Yes, January 1994 to December 2001. I'll bet you still "red up" your house when company is coming over, huh? _________________ Be well,

I spent a couple years in western PA, and the whole "yunz" thing really threw me when I first heard it. Then someone kindly bought me a book on "Pittsburghese" and it became more clear......marginally.... _________________ Justin S. Barrett

| Pittsburgh is a linguistic law unto itself. Colors = kellers, downtown = dahn tahn, OMG. I thought the state license plate should read "Yinz got a friend in Pennsylvania" I did graduate work at Pitt in the 80's. Ritter's rocked. Does it still? |

Mary,
I've never been there, so can't offer any insight. Sorry. (An on an unrelated note, fabulous avatar, Mary!) _________________ Be well,
