The "which voiceover service you subscribe to" thread reminded me that big holidays are coming up and this will be my first Christmas with clients. I'm wondering how many of you send something to your clients at holiday time? Not asking you to spill your ideas, just curious to know if you do something. If I can get my act together I would like to.
I actually did spend some money on advertising a few months ago, at a website that lists production companies. I've used this website to get a ton of contacts and even recommended it to a contact who wasn't listed there. The contact bought a listing, and then the guy who runs the site wrote to thank me and ended up selling ME a listing. I was easy prey, because the site has been so useful and the guy gave me some good ideas. However, according to my web stats, I have gotten zero hits on my website from that site so far.
I'm working on some narration demos now and eventually I'll want to get them onto my CD. I also want some new art work, which will lead to finally getting some decent business cards. So there's another several wads of cash.
Curious to hear what others are spending the money on that they don't spend on auditioning for gigs at subscription sites, if ya feel like sharing. |

I'm just sending out the usual Holiday greeting cards with my name on it. No phone number, no address - this is not blatant advertising, just a sincere Happy Holiday wish.
that's all - no gifts.

At Christmas a few cases of wine will be sent, some bottles of champagnes, boxes of Belgian chocolates, single malt whisky and a few cards. |

Phil...
I'll PM you my address, just be sure to pop the single malt in the mail pretty soon since the over seas shipments can take some time at this time of year!

I'll be sending out very simple cards as well... I will put my business card on the inside cover of the card, but other than that just a genuine "Happy Holidays" (note the politically correct and non-denominational statement... argh I hate PCness).
It's an innexpensive way to touch bases, but one that I'm sure will be positively received.

Wow-- I need to ascertain who enjoys alcohol. I'd love to share the really fine stuff.
So funny-- I had to strain to think who the people are who hand me work-- it's so woven into the fabric of life now.
I needs to make me a list, I do. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

My personal favorites to send are See's Candy (the BEST candy on the planet), and Starbuck's cards. Not exactly single malt, but always appreciated. _________________ Enjoy life, this is not a rehearsal.

Ditto on the Holiday Cards.
I also send thank you cards to my clients after final payment for writing projects. I'm finding that with all the technology we are using today, people still love the personal thought and time you put into a mailed card. |

I've given a wide variety of gifts over the years to my best clients and I couldn't tell you whether any of it works or not. I just about never get a "thank you" or a response of any kind. The work the next year seems to have no relation to the gift given either.
I've been sending more and more Thanksgiving cards to clients and important people in my life. As I get more and more turned off by the super-materialism of Christmas, heartfelt gratitude sent or received at the time of thanks has more meaning for me.

I am with Bruce, as to the X-mas cards. Last year I started sending New Year’s cards, wishing them good fortune for the next year. It’s something everyone can relate to. |
