Just came home from a recording session for a grocery chain No big deal, just a revised revision of a revised revision, but it was a great session... the folks in Louisville (loo-UH-vuhl) and the engineer here were super to work with, lots of kidding around and self-deprecating humor. We finished the revision and the agency guy says, "What the hell... I'm paying for an hour so let's chat."

So we did. Gossiped, caught up each other's families, stuff like that. Yeah, the money was good but times like this? Priceless. Well, maybe not priceless, but well worth an hour's studio time.

Chris, that sounds soooo nice! And priceless sounds like a good quote for that gig Smile

I don't get out of my studio much. Last week, though, I had a gig in Albany, NY, a 2 hour drive. It was my first gig at this studio but second visit, since they had invited me out once before just to give me a listen. I brought homemade cookies both times and it helped them remember me Wink . After a 2 hour drive and then 5 minutes in the booth, I was definitely in the mood to hang around and talk (or look around the studio and take notes!), but I followed "the rules", thanked everybody and skedaddled. How nice to be invited to stay!

Thanks for telling that story Chris.

A great one indeed, Chris. Mary, I'm sure there were plenty of activities in which to participate while in Albany, no? Seriously joking.

Sometimes I think I'm in this business to become a better person. I found a random lead, followed up, got a reply, and an opportunity to do a paid gig for the company (which I just completed). But in the interaction, a.) I called and was dismissed quickly by phone b.) asked questions about the project via email to ensure I had all the details and received a curt reply and c.) as I was monitoring the magic I just created Exclamation I checked email and got a "the dude I usually use turns around in 24 hours. Is that going to be a problem?" The project is vox, mux, sfx ... and put to me to determine all elements except script.

So natch I was my usual kind, sweet self; in my reply email, to which I attached the watermarked version (Banksey, I used your slate under about 8 times!), I told him I worked on it this morning (not at 4p yesterday when he sent me the script), was playing back when reading emails, and there his was. How serendipitous.

Ever get the feeling you're dealing with insufferable asses sometimes? But you'll never know for sure, and rather than giving them the benefit of the doubt, you presume as much, take deep breaths, and kill them with kindness?

Yeah, that's me today.

oops--this is not a blog

No it's not a blog Mag Pie, but it is nice to know (in a sick and twisted kind of way) that we don't suffer fools alone. Thanks for sharing. Mary...you can bring home made cookies to my house ANY time ...and I'll let you hang out and eat em too!

I'm somewhere in between Diane and Chris today (hm, that sounds strange!).

After fighting a bad cold for 3 days, I went to the Dr. yesterday. She says 'open up and say ahh'...followed by an 'oh my'. I was put on 24 hours vocal rest....otherwise known as 'vacation' for my husband.

The call comes yesterday afternoon from a regular client. 3 radio spots ASAP.

My husband calls to tell them I can record in the morning (that would be this morning). No problem. So, I get up- give it my all (as I'm still not 100%) and call the client to see what type of music they would like. Oh about that- they forgot to call and tell me that this campaign has been postponed to next week and the scripts will be completely different. Uh, thanks.

So- as I'm about to start pouting over the unnecessary use of my sick voice...they call back to tell me that one of my TV clients that dropped me last month has realized their mistake and would like me back...oh and they've added 2 more locations to the mix!

This business is up, it's down, and then it's back up again.

Diane- for some reason your posts always have me to needing to look big words up in the dictionary...I think that's a good thing Smile

Client called back- campaign is on again...and the spots need to hit the air tonight. Phew! So, I just hit 'send' on a whole series of overwritten spots I was forced to read entirely too fast...almost as fast as I will deposit their check...woohoo! Wink [cough, cough]

Today was a good day for me as well. Got to go to a studio down in Irvine to record a product narration and work with one of my favorite producers. It was supposed to be recorded yesterday, and I had childcare for my youngest all lined up (my top 3 choices on my "go-to" list were unavailable). Then they switched it to today, and I had to go to plan G for childcare. It all worked out in the end, and it went very quickly. Even got to stop for lunch by myself before going home. Good times.
