VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

A "Fix in the mix" demo has a four figure price tag and I've heard one made for a very experienced FVO. She was targetting herself at TV promo's and movie trails. The demo was underwhelming, this from an FVO who is superb.

The voice of one of the major TV networks in the USA was heard DJing on the radio by a senior manager of the TV network. The real decision makers are smart enough to know if you're right or not just from the sound of your voice.

How many demo's are enough? ONE, preferably of your voice, doing what you do best.

My demo was done by David Goldberg, of EdgeStudios. I sent it out and two agencies called. The one I signed with asked, "Who produced this?" He's got an ear that won't quit. And, apparently, knows how to bring out the good stuff in an artist plus SFX and music that impresses. And, it getting it didn't cost 4 figures, believe me.

Now that I've got ISDN, I may call him to do a new one for me.

I'll cast another vote for David Goldberg at Edge Studio. Great producer, engineer, and voice coach! I worked with him quite a bit this past spring and would highly recommend him to anyone within travelling distance of NYC.

On top of all of his technical skills and industry experience, he's also a first rate human being and great guy.

Another Edge endorsement - I didn't end up making my demo with them but got a lot of training from them, which was first rate.

I recently sent David a radio spot I had done, and he ended up calling me on a Saturday and talking with me for an hour about equipment and marketing. He is indeed a super guy.

Enjoy that audiobook seminar Kit - I've taken two of 'em at Edge and loved 'em.

In NYC Elaine, but I have done quite a bit of telephone training with Edge instructors including the audiobook instructor. Very satisfactory indeed (important to be able to record the calls though, so one can listen to the session again later)!

If you are producing a radio demo...talk with some of the big radio producers who work with other voices... One guy who is REAL sharp and does all the work and creative stuff..even voice for
the GLENN BECK talk show on Premiere is ERIC CHASE. He's in Tampa. This guy is a genius. Try him through WFLA in Tampa.
He might have relocated since he is no longer just IN Tampa but
is hooked up with Premiere networks. EVEN has his OWN barter
imaging library for radio stations called CHASE CUTS!

Another sharp guy is BRIAN LEE. He does work for CNN and CNBC.
He is also in Florida..Ft Myers I think. He is a sharp producer and voice for radio. brianlee.com. He developed a radio imaging sound
library that PREMIERE networks also picked up and sells for $1200
per set..!!!

Here's another quick story and then I will shut up! I got ahold of
famous network and movie trailer guy..Chris Corley. "The real edgy grainy sounding male voice on Fox Network".. He was real
busy and had to call me back. LOT OF SESSIONS after sessions..
He took down my # and one day OUT of the blue, he had about
5 minutes to spare between sessions and he called and we talked
about studio stuff and vo..stuff. I FELT LIKE a groupie but it was
real helpful and cool! DON'T BE afraid to call on the guys and gals
who are the REAL BIG TIME players. You might get ignored OR you might get some good feedback...

Wow a voice what does stuff for the networks and CNN!!! You'd never get one of those on here would you????

When I first started doing VO's full time the phone rang one night and it was Marsha Crenshaw. She does ID's and promos for HBO and HGTV. It was one of the most positive and informative conversations I've had. As is true on this board, those who are successful are often the most helpful and nicest. I'm sure we can all name names of those who have gone out of their way to help us along our way, or you can name those whom you have helped.

I think that everyone comes at this business their own way and has to find their own place. And, I keep remembering the song from my youth and those fantastic words to live by...

"Life is but a dream...Shboom, shboom!"
