Hey guys-- Pat and I are the Flavor of the Week on GDC Radio.

http://www.gdcradio.net/2007/09/creating_a_new_age_of_voiceove.html

Someone from AFTRA just told me about it.
What a hoot!
It's a riot that the GDC guys didn't let us know, but what are ya gonna do.

The online description is wrong and I was unable to get it fixed in spite of calls an email. Here's the real thumbnail description (and it was a lecture, not a roundtable:

Audio directors have a right to know what to expect from the voice actors that are hired to voice games. The object of this program is to discuss and demonstrate directing techniques actors can easily respond to, scripting that will wring a fuller character from your actor, and audition ideas to ascertain that you’re getting the VO you really need for a part in a game.

Here's the "takeaway":

Attendees will understand what voice actors can bring to the creative process of writing and audio design for interactive games, and will learn creative techniques for quickly getting a great range of choices for game dialog and other vocal necessities.

nice one. "This man needs a hymnal."

Fraley is my new hero. I had no idea he was in Full Throttle and Monkey Island, some of my favorite classic games.

I also sent the link to the audio directors here at work, one of whom was in attendance.

Thanks DB. This is quite a lesson. I am listening to it now. I'm up to the "serving suggestions" part. Great stuff!

Neat! Thanks for sharin'! Well done, you two.

Next year: how to mic a room for an interactive presentation. Smile

The sidebar whispering was crystal clear though.

Just observin'...

I kinda liked that 'sidebar whispering'. Lets you know what's really going on.

We didn't anticipate quite so much byplay, so we didn't ask for mics for the room— but the audience was immediately engaged. We just decided to roll with it.

Incidentally, one of the attendees has asked me to come and speak to a group of up-and-coming developers at Midway in Seattle next month.
Who all should I look up while I'm there?
Jeffrey?

Jeffrey,

I'm going to be in Tacoma at the end of October and first few days of November. Is that close enough for a visit?

Sorry Scott, I was way too busy. I'm in serious crunch mode for the day job, working 12+ a day 7 days a week. It's amazing the hours we put in for video games.
