Hello Everyone!

I think it is worth noting, this time of year....especially with emails you may be receiving to join certain internet voiceover sites....special offers and reduced pricing etc.

Do yourself a favor and do some keyword searches before you join a site. Look up Voice Over Talent...Voice Talent...Male Voice Talent...Female Voice Talent and others. Ask the owner what type of marketing they do and proceed after getting solid answers that can be proven. They should come up on at least the first to third page or your searches. If not, think twice before joining, regardless of the testimonials on the site and the legitamacy of the names you see. Some of these folks may have received free memberships. I'm just speculating though. Make your own decisions.

I believe a voiceover site should market themselves somewhat aggresively and be extremely visible so as to get you opportunities....real opportunities. Not just people looking at your profile or "hits". Because really, that could be anyone looking....other members etc.

I will not name names of any certain companies, however, you can make your own decision after doing some research. I can see the internet clicks being bought right now....for just a month. Ehhkk!

I made the mistake of joining one of these sites and wasting the money. Several other very highly talented individuals that I have contacted have had very similar experiences. Use your money for other marketing efforts on your own. It will be money that is better spent.

Thanks for reading this. Just trying to be of help to any new VOBB members since this is a great community of help and guidance for many.

I'm with you, Ben. I believe that the pay-to-play sites have seen their day.
Too many voices, too many low-ballers, too many bargain-seeking clients.

I've been dazzled in the last two weeks by work coming through a voice site which sets prices, vets their talents and takes 15% of the gig price; with zero auditions.

Meanwhile, the voice sites have me jumping through vocal hoops for success ratios of one of 412 at Voices (!), and two of 186 at V123.
(Not including privates.)

Robert,

The two sites you mention come up as the first two results with a search of "voice over talent." V123 and voices market themselves pretty well, imho. I think Ben might be referring to another site(s).

Care to share the name of this magical place?

Yes, Dan-O, I figured that. I guess I was only making a larger observation that (dare I say it?) more exclusive sites may be the wave of the future.
No matter how they dress them up, the pay-to-play sites are becoming the cheapies on the street corner.

It's not obvious today or tomorrow, maybe...but that's what I'm guessing.
And I will not long keep it under my hat, Jeffrey. It's been around a while, though methinks it's in a major re-structuring period. For various reasons, though, I'll wait a couple of days before divulging the site that has brought me two TV voiceovers, a regional US radio ad, and yet another interactive voiceover in only two weeks.

Monday, OK? Promise.

Dan-O is correct. I was not talking about Voice123 or Voices.com in my initial post. Those site do come up very soon in the keyword searches and have in the past and will probably continue as well.

Even checking the keyword searches for a new voiceover site can be deceiving too since the owner can probably buy clicks for a short period of time or during their promotional offer.

Those on the board whom are more internet savy can probably expound.

I feel pay for play sites like the current "big two" comprise a portion of the many tools I use to get out there. And the list is always evolving.
It would be nice if Ben cares to share Kiss
