Check out www.soundstreak.com

I also blogged about it today - www.CarynClark.net

I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon for ISDN alternatives considering I just put ISDN in my studio less than a year ago. And, (knocking on wood here), I've never had an issue with my lines or codec. I love it.

I thought I'd offer this up here to see what you all thought.

Thank you Caryn.

A good idea for sure is being presented by "Sound Streak". I only question the cost factor of (estimated, not set in stone yet) of $100.00 per session to the Producer. Talent do no "pay" under the current guidelines of Sound Streak. Additionally, the idea of sending the audio file as .wav or .aiff is lengthy at best. Depending upon your internet bandwidth upload speed this could take a long time, especially if the audio is more than a couple of minutes.

There is also a lot of behind the scenes "work" for the Producer when it comes to uploading video prior to the session, etc.

I am looking forward to observing the roll-out of Sound Streak soon.

I'm with Frank on this. It's an ongoing uphill battle just to get producers to start doing things via Source Connect, etc, I can't imagine producers would be willing to pay $100 for the privilage of recording the audio on their end. This product seems immediately at a disadvantage.

About the most that could be ever charged a producer is the equivalent of what they're paying now to dial up a long distance call to a talent with ISDN. I'm guessing for the average session, it's considerably less than $100. If they have to pay more to use a different point-to-point solution, I'm guessing it'll be a hard go. In the mind of many producers, ISDN ain't broke so why fix it.

Just my two cents. Watch them prove me wrong! Rolls Eyes

Just did a session via iSpeek from here in the snowy hills of Utah to the sunny shores of Florida... and wow! Am I pleased? Yes.

iSpeek will be available for Mac and PC within the next few weeks... (I hope, just in time for Christmas). I am working the coding for the .mp3 codec part of the program.

So now iSpeek owners will be able to record as an .aiff, .wav or .mp3. There is more, but I cannot let the entire "cat out of the bag" quite yet. I need to have some surprises don't I?

As I stated, Sound Streak has some possibilities and it seems to be a good concept. Can Sound Streak make it work AND make it pay? I cannot say, but I wish them luck.

Hi,

Sorry, this post wasn't meant to compete with iSpeek necessarily. I'm just speaking about another alternative to ISDN that's coming down the pike that I saw in action.

I cannot answer the questions posed... I'm just not techy enough. Though I have to say, I did watch a session, and it wasn't slow at all from my standpoint.

As for the price, my guess is that this might be marketed more toward the networks and larger producers (it's been tested with Paramount already). I know David said that the rate charged will be dependent upon the user, so I think it might be a sliding scale.

Just to let you guys know... we're currently testing Soundstreak from their headquarters to my home in Purmerend, The Netherlands @10 mls north of Amsterdam. They're in between servers now for they had not tried connecting over such a far distance yet. From what I've seen and experienced it is one fine piece of software...
We're also gonna be testing from Netherlands Antilles for I'm moving to Curaçao this next october 25th for 8-18 months. Work on my tan and stuff Wink

Keep you posted...
