Hi all!

How do you guys consider Dubai in terms of the Local/Regional/National classifications for radio spots. This is a new one for me.

Got a private lead from a guy asking for a :30 Radio VO spot rate for:
in HIS words: "For a small market size. I'm in Dubai- a smal city in UAE (The Gulf)

I know Todd & Jeff, you've done Narrations for Dubai, and Bruce you've done telephony...anyone done radio for there?

Suggestions?

Liz

Dubai isn't exactly a small market. It's the main city of the UAE. And according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai it's got a population of 1.5 million. So I don't think "small market" defines a Dubai radio station. I'd go Regional rates.

And given his attempts to con you into small market rates, get payment upfront via paypal.

Furthermore it's where all the oil billionairs are... and Dubai has the only 7-star hotel in the world. This from the website Wink
With your chauffeur driven Rolls Royce, discreet in-suite check in, private reception desk on every floor and a brigade of highly trained butlers who provide around-the-clock attention, you can be assured of a highly personalised service throughout your stay at the Burj al Arab Hotel hotel in Dubai, which is in the United Arab Emirates.
http://www.Burj-Al-Arab.com

By the way, it’s $50 just to enter the lobby and look around. Staying in one of the rooms is a little over two grand a night.

Of course, this place is just for tourists. Saudi Arabian women can’t visit, at least by themselves. They must be accompanied by a male relative any time they leave the house. They cannot drive, they cannot vote, and they cannot socialize with the opposite sex. They can only go shopping at special hours or at special malls where men are not allowed. They cannot go to school with men, work with men who are not their husbands, even drive in a cab, unless the cab driver is their relative. They can’t attend or have a dinner party, unless it’s just other women, go to the amusement park, go to a museum or the theatre, go see a movie, go to the zoo, go to a restaurant or go anywhere else unaccompanied by their husband or another male relative.

Indeed an "interesting" place...

But, it does have a Hard Rock Café Wink

With that many Billionaires in one place, perhaps a "planetary feel" would be more appropriate.

You learn something new every day...

I always thought "dubai" was the language spoken by that one guy on "The Cosby Kids"
