The certainly have in my case.

I just don't know what to do. I had kind of sworn off pay-to-plays because they're such a huge distraction for me, and I get most of my work from other channels that require less angst and effort. But I feel my resolution waning. Could someone please just tell me what to do?

Some days I hate being self-employed (and I've been self-employed since I was 19, which is something like 10 years now.) Some days I just need a boss.

Dieter has likened pay-to-play sites to vanity galleries.

You pay to get in, you are seen.
Maybe get a review in the NY Times.

There is a divergence in the simile, however, with the audition situation in a pay-to-play site, and the time it takes to attend those. With a gallery, there you are.

If you're getting private leads dee-lux then you can view your collective marketing dollars as a kind of front-loaded commission. If you're devoting too much time to managing stuff you'd rather not do, then you've got your answer.

Amy, like you, I've sworn off the pay to play sites as well, except for the big two, if you will, b/c they end up paying for themselves.

I'm in the same boat... what to do?

I think I'd rather focus my energy on stepping up one of my agent slots. I dunno.... Rolls Eyes

I'm pretty sure I'm not renewing at either of the "big two" when my current subscription runs out. So signing up for a new pay-to-play would be instead of, not in addition to... But, I'm on the fence.

Amy,
If you are torn, the only way to resolve that is to divide and conquer.

You pay the site, I'll post my information.

Well, the new one will get you on Voicebank in addition to VOPlanet and Voicecasting. So that sounds like pretty good bang for the buck. I just don't have time right now to make 35 tiny custom auditions to go into the very very specific categories, I get the concept, but I have never made a separate demo for radio and TV spots, much less one each for soft sell, medium sell and hard sell radio and one each of the same for TV spots...etc.

They are currently breaking down characters the same way - villans, etc.

I frankly don't "get" the VOPlanet/Voicecasting relationship.

I got all the letters from the Summerses, but I'll be damned if I could make sense of it. It seemed pretty complicated and I lost the will to go on before I got to the part about infinitesimal demos.

I prefer a simpler machine— the lever, the inclined plane, the agent.

So this is a separate entity from their original business/website? Or is this the business in it's new form?? I'm confused.

All right missy!

You say they are causing you more pain and suffering than you think its worth... therefore, you are ordered to let your membership(s) expire without renewal. Now get back to work doing the things that work for you without messing with your pretty little head!

Did this help? Embarrassed

Were you part of VoiceCasting.com?

If so, you should be getting this promotional stuff.
