Here's a timely story for all...
Have you ever hired someone to mix your audio, later finding out they half-ass mixed everything? I'm still feeling the sting from this morning and when I called the individual late last evening I heard the following excuses:
- I worked all day on this audio. (BS)
- I don't have good equipment to hear the problems. (BS)
- You can fix it better than I can. (That's certainly true)
- Well, here's my address so you can pay me. (WTF)
So I stood around and stewed on this for the better part of the morning as I came to the conclusion I would just redo it and get everything sent to the client, that's when I got a call from the client who had already downloaded everything.. it wasn't good:
- I have been listening to the liners, we need to talk. (Oh S)
My brother is one of those Oracles of Wisdom, and stress relief, so I call him up to shoot the breeze and he says:
- In the end, it's your problem, next time do it yourself.
- Does he still have access to your websites?
- Pay the man and never work with him again.
- If you wanted bad tracks, you could've paid me.
I usually would never post publicly about a personal failure of service, but this one takes the cake. At every turn there was a failure because nobody was listening. In the end, I own the failure, which is why I'm posting this here so I can, admittedly, use it as a personal clipboard so I can find out why I'll never work that individual again.
Remember: If you must pay for studio or production services, let your ears say studio's legit before you commit. As luck would have it, I didn't sign a contract.
Openly po'd and loathing in VA,

Just one thought my friend,
Never say never!
However, you might do what I do in these types of situations. Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate.
Keep in mind, that you might choose to NOT refer this facility in the future (exept to your worst enemy or top competition), his/her services are/were worth something - not much, but something; that you are a dis-satisified customer of this person's facitlity - what is he/she going to do to make you happy?
Finally, my most sincere diatribe is simply: good luck and keep remembering what you have learned from this experience.

Damnation.
To be smacked AND have to pay for it is a double-damn. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The worst part is that it's for one of the syndicated I voice ... and life goes on. Thanks for the advice, I'll add it to the growing list. _________________ Genus |

I'm truly sorry for your troubles. This line:
"If you wanted bad tracks, you could've paid me."
Yup...siblings. Sounds like something my sister would say...and she gives NO relief for stress whatsoever. |
