Dan Fogelberg Dies

He was all the rage when I was growing up in Boulder...

Quote:
Once in a vision I came on some woods
And stood at a fork in the road
My choices were clear yet I froze with the fear
Of not knowing which way to go
Oh, one road was simple acceptance of life
The other road offered sweet peace
When I made my decision
My vision became my release

from Nether Lands

This tune made a huge impact on me, and actually helped me make the first steps toward the life I'm living now.

I didn't know he lived in Maine.
Godspeed, Dan. I hope to see you later.

That's really sad.

My all-time favorite album of his was "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" -- done with Tim Weisberg.

I love Leader of the Band...always brings a tear to my eye thinking of my own dad.

Fellahs, there's a lesson here - get your PSA levels (Prostate Specific Antigens) checked at EVERY physical...easy enough to do and if caught in time prostate cancer's very beatable. (stepping off soap box)

i saw this first thing today, and copied the link to send to my eldest sister. she listened to his albums, and so, we did, too. he was part of my formative years, as well.

Adds voice to chorus of folks telling guys "Get it checked!"

A close colleague of ours just checked in after having surgery for prostate cancer.

Man... All those years of working at a soft rock station are coming back to me. Didn't care for his music (except maybe for "Longer"), but I gotta respect the impact he had on people's lives.

I finally found a doctor here that's taking new patients, so I told him I'd have a laundry list of things to check on my first visit in February... Sooner is better than later.

I knew Dan back in the mid-70's when we both lived in Champaign-Urbana, IL. He was one of many who played at a little coffee house called The Red Herring, in the basement of a Unitarian Church.

As I say many would-be musicians played that club (including me) but even then none could hold a candle to Dan. He was obviously an amazing talent, destined for big things.

I worked at the local CBS TV Station during those days, and had him on a late night show I hosted a few times (it aired right before the National Anthem). Sure wish I had those tapes.

I had just checked in on his website last week to see if there was any news pertaining to his health. Not much had really been added in the last year or so. Then yesterday I saw the news on CNN.com.

I'm so sorry to see him pass at such an early age. He will be greatly missed.

Jim

I just heard "Same Auld Lang Syne" on the radio the other day and it choked me up as usual. In my opinion his music was in a genre that really doesn't exist on radio anymore.

Enjoyed his stuff. Remember hearing his "Leader of the Band" one Sunday afternoon while in the car, and it reminded me I should call my grandfather (a band director) and say hello, as you just never know what life brings next. I ended up forgetting and a couple days later, I recieved the news that my grandfather was in the hospital and he ended up passing away soon after.

It was a strange experience that offered a strong lesson.

Jim Barton,

I, too, sat at the Red Herring on the Univ of Illinois campus as a lonely freshman in 1970 and listened to the amazing talent of Dan Fogleberg. Cost of admission: $0.

I was always proud that he was a son of Illinois (Peoria-area, I believe).

All the youngsters in the newsroom I polled today only have a vague awareness of him through his song Auld Lang Syne.... too bad.... he was one of the greats.
