Anyone here listed with Opuzz Voice? If so, did you have to pay for your listing? And, again, if so, when did you submit?

See - I submitted more than 2 months ago. At that time, there was NO mention of a submission charge.

2 weeks ago, I receive an e-mail from them telling me they no longer offer free submissions. They now charge a one-time listing fee of $5.00.

Now, mind you, $5.00 isn't going to break me. Nor is this the issue.

I'm a man of principle. So, I e-mailed back informing them that at the time of submission, there was NO CHARGE and as a result, I should receive my listing for free.

I STILL await a response.

Any input would be welcome.

Philip,

Appreciate the response. Glad to know you didn't pay. And, I'm not necessarily attempting to get work from them... just trying to get listed and get my link on yet another site.

And, concerning another of your posts, I'm glad you have the luxury of not auditioning. I couldn't agree with you more about "that's why we produce demos".

God bless Corporate America!

Doc, I signed up with them in July. The listing was free if one submitted a demo of something ridiculous like 800 K - you can't listen to a 1 minute demo of that quality and not burst into tears. So I paid $5. The automated response I got made it sound like I had just joined their production music site. I wrote to inquire and heard nothing. They didn't list me on their voice site and I figured they had abandoned the whole enterprise. Last week I emailed again and asked for a refund, and was astonished actually to hear from them and they apologised and told me they had just put me up on their site.

My suggestion - you'll be doing them a favor if you keep your money. It would probably only confuse them if they had that much to spend.

I have a vague recollection from a year of so ago.

Wow! Just checked my archive and here's the timestamp: Wed, 21 May 2003 07:22:17 +0800 for Opuz. Time flys when you're having fun. I did one audition. No business resulted. Later, I believe they changed something. I don't think I ever followed up. I thought I was registered on the server. Apparently not.

On this topic, (using WWW servers) I just scored a good paying gig from an unlikely source. Over a year ago I got one lead from who knows where in hell or heaven. The lead provides narration services for real estate brokers/agencies. And, I was one of many talents selected and placed on their site. That company's clients choose which VO talent they want to use to narrate a promo. I hadn't heard anything from the lead for about a year or so.

Last week I got an E-mail asking me to do a job, but not from the real estate narration biz. My new client was a visitor to that site. No audition required. No dog pile. The moral of the story: Get exposed any way you can! Business comes from unanticipated sources.

I'm on there too. I've never paid to be listed, but now you pay $5 to change content on your page. It appears they are also concentrating on selling their music beds at $359 per CD.

Have tried to list with them twice in the last year when it was allegedly free. Got no response. Sent several emails attempting to follow up. No response. My last one to them was less than flattering. Still, no response. Keep your five bucks.

I actually had a similar experience as Drew. I registered with them at least twice and heard nothing back either time. Never bothered following up.

Just out of curiosity I checked them out. Now your demo(s) have to be 300k or less. the lowest sample rate I could save my :56 demo is 8kbps, 8000 hz, mono (10:0:01) and it still came in at 879k. And let me tell ya, it sounded sweet!

Yeah, I thought the 300k demo was mighty slim.

The only value that I can see is another link in a directory.

Doc (and the whole gang!)

I am listed on Opuzz...have been for 3 or 4 months...and I recall it taking about that long to finally get the page up and running. This only after numerous emails demeaning and demanding they make good on their promise. A couple of times I had forgotten about them only to get an email saying how sorry they were for the delay etc...

Anyway, at the time I listed it was free to join but I did spring for the increased file space which was only $5 a year. Doesn't make sense to me to charge enough to irriatate poeple but not enough to actually service the members. Obviously their main focus is on selling music NOT voiceover services.
