OK, I'll speak up for AOL.

Web-based AOL is my main e-mail utility. It's changed, grown-up, and even in the last month or so, improved again.

Web-based AOL mail, though, is not to be confused with the AOL browser, which is a customized version of MS Internet Explorer. In fact, if you change your home page in IE, it'll change in the AOL Explorer, and vice-versa.

When I click on a link in an AOL mail, the page opens up in whatever browser I already have open, or in whatever browser I've chosen as my default browser. Clicking a link in an AOL mail does not automatically open the AOL browser. (unless you've chosen that as default)

I used to use the AOL browser, but have since eliminated it...'cause it seemed redundant, and offered no clear edge over FireFox or MS IE.

The only beef I have with AOL mail is that it is not hugely tolerant of sending larger files. For that I use G-mail with consistently no hassle.

i too use AOL e-mail. I have an e-mail address from my website i typically give out, but it gets autoforwarded to my aol e-mail anyway.

i DON'T use the aol program itself to retrieve my e-mail anymore. i have outlook set up to pull all the aol e-mails... so when i click a link in the e-mail it opens up in my default browser, which happens to be firefox. (i don't use any of the other aol services anymore cause there are plenty of other choices on the web now, as opposed to when it first came out and nowhere else could you chat, shop, read news etc... i just haven't gotten around to changing the e-mail. i've had it for close to 10 years now. but who knows... maybe this is the year)

sometimes i'll use aol's website to retrieve e-mail, but for the most part i use outlook.

I also just got a blackberry, which i added my aol e-mail to; so now i can use my blackberry to check and reply to e-mails.
