One of my favorite character actors passes away.

I loved his roles on 'The Andy Griffith' show.

Wow. Living in Andy Griffith country...I've really developed a love for that show.

Very sad.

Craig,

Thanks for posting this story. He was just a gifted performer. I especially enjoyed his performances on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

I think it might just be my favorite tv show. I loved it as a kid and still do. Amazing talent in addition to Mr Melvin:

Howard Morris aka Ernest T "How do you do Mrs. Wiley?"

Hal Smith as Otis the town drunk.

Walter Baldwin as Floyd the Barber.

Don Knotts.....'nuff said.

Francis Bavier...

Have you found Mayberry Kara? Just 'down the road a piece' from Raleigh and Mount Pilot I think. Makes me wanna grow up all over again.

Craig

Craig,

Actually Mayberry is almost due north of Charlotte, just off I-77. The real name of the town is Mount Airy. Some good friends of ours from church just retired there and at least one member of the VO-BB lives not from from there.

There are several Community Colleges in NC that have courses about the "philosophy of Mayberry."
As far as location......"In our hearts and minds, we should all live in Mayberry."
Paleesse!
The most sound and usable "down home philosophy" from TV beyond question came from Jed and Granny Clampett in the Beverly Hillbillies.
