I think someone ought to give him a semi-good job from a semi pro.

Kevin, are you up for the gig for FREE? I have never done any part of a trailer for FREE, nor do I intend to start now, but I will submit your name if you desire.

So, you are asserting you've never scratched for a trailer?

No, read carefully, I have never not been paid to do - even a scratch track.

I am a professional and I get paid when I do work - whatever it may be...

So does your post imply you are a "semi-pro" who gets "semi-paid"?

I have and have not been paid. If it comes through an agent I am working with, then I do it, EoS. Now, if in your book, that equates to semi-professional, then so be it.

As for the job, have it run through my agent or past my wife.

[quote="JeffreyKafer"]

"Srcatch dialogue, if done for free, is proably handled by someone down the hall who works there."

I was once the guy down the hall, did one or two tag lines for the company I worked for. They one day, I was the voice of the major record labels music sampler that played in Loews Movie Theatres across the country.

I also did an acting gig for free. Got me some nice reviews and it led to a paid gig OFF BROADWAY.

not a bad thing to put on a postcard when sending it out to agents and casting directors

Given that the trailer industry has a competely different definition of "scratch" than pretty much anywhere else, I don't think it's unexpected for there to be confusion.

Share with me please.

What's different about it?

Since we're on the subject, is it typical to charge less to do a scratch track for a narration than you would for the finished product?

Thanks,

Craig

When I do a scratch track, it's considered part of the project.

The scratch track is made for the purpose of timing and isn't usually the knock-myself-out kind of read I do for a final read. Like, if my voice cracks a bit, I don't redo it. It's the quick-n-dirty version of what I intend to do.
The final track is the all-stops-out version.

This is my experience, and what keeps my clients happy.
Your milage may vary.
