Hi:

After limping along with the software that came with my Dell, I have upgraded my computer and want to upgrade my recording software. I am somewhat familiar with Pro tools but really don't know what else is out there. I know I need to spend a bit but don't want to go over 3-400 hundred dollars max.

Though I am usually recording just my voice. I would like something that I can put background music etc. to if need be and it needs to have some good editing tools but not so much to learn that it is overwhelming. I also have to be able to send good quality files in wav and mp3 generally.

Thanks for any recommendations.. I appreciate your time.

Thanks,
Nancy

I'm an Adobe Audition person, but having a radio production background may be why I like it so much.

If you don't have an audio editing/production background, there may be other options that would be better for you.

Nancy, you would profit from the wealth of information available on this venerable forum by searching the archives. As an example, you may want to start on a thread such as this: http://www.vo-bb.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3345&highlight=software

Nancy,

May I suggest you search the forums. There are many topics you'll find helpful.

There's a wide range of programs that may suit you. Audacity is free, Goldwave is very inexpensive (around $50 if memory serves), Audition and Sound Forge are a bit more at around $300 each. Adobe has come out with a new slimmed down program called Sound Booth at around $200, but I have no experience with it.

I'd suggest reviewing the archives, then going to download.com and downloading the trial versions of 2 or 3 so you can try them before you buy.

And finally, I too am an Audition fan. For what I specifically do it works for me.

I also am a big fan of Adobe Audition. It has basically the same features of Adobe Soundbooth, which is new. In fact I might recommend Adobe Soundbooth at this point.

Great piece of software, versatile, and easy to use.

I have tried and recommend Adbobe Soundbooth. Great piece of software, very powerful and easy to use. Single-track only though.

Another vote for Adobe Audition.
