Jeff,
I don’t know if this would work for you, but….I did a job for through an NY agency for this NY real estate website's webcast:
http://beta.therealdeal.com/front (it plays in the video window, click on the arrow in the middle of the screen) the first version was mixed with the music very compressed and so loud you could hardly hear the voice track which is a 6 second commercial for some condos where studios start at $795,000. I know if I were the client I would want my message to be clearly conveyed.
I very tactfully remixed it and sent the audio back to the agent and said I had some time and played with the mix, what do you think? Never heard a comment back except another audition for another client and how they liked my work. Then I notice the remixed version is now playing on the site. At least I can now be heard above the music. By the way the audition was for the same client (different development) who liked it so much they have been running it since Oct 1st. Unfortunately the other project is waiting till they are through playing this one. Sigh. (edited for typos) _________________ Gregory Best

unfortunately, I don't have all the audio/video assets to remix their spot for them. I tactfully (I hope) mentioned that it sounded too loud, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I don't wat to come across as prima donna "Uh, excooose me, but I'm not loud enough!". _________________ Jeff

This gig was posted on Craig's List??? Seems they spent a fair amount on the animation and the video shoot and graphics....unless they have a producer/graphics artist/After Effects animator in the band. Must have run out of money I guess. Too funny.
A fix could be taking the audio and adding a stereo spread to the mix. I think this is an effect in Audition. It will help the mono track (your voice) stand out more, while still sitting in the mix well at the same time. _________________ Ben

This was a gig originally posted about here: http://www.vo-bb.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5068. They offered $30 on Craigslist. I emailed them giving my rate and offering my services if they were unhappy with the respondents. They weren't and hired me and paid the rate I quoted them.
Thanks for the suggestion, Ben, but unfortunately, I don't have any assets other than the final file. Oh well. I don't think this is something I'd put in my reel, anyway. _________________ Jeff

Jeff,
Regardless of the levels, you nailed it.
Nice job.

You were right for the gig and the read was spot on. Too bad the engineer is most likley deaf and cannot hear what a mix should be.
I hope for their sake that they re mix, and for yours so you can put it on you reel, if you want to.
Good on you! _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"
