I'm a newbie at VO and looking at getting started. Having Googled VO, I see a number of places you can view job listings and reply with a demo, a bid, etc. Some charge a monthly/yearly fee others supposedly don't. Are these outfits worth using? Any info/opinions appreciated. |

Jaybird,
I've moved this to the chat section where it's more appropriate. Search the archives for plenty of info. We've discussed this many times.

Thanks for the input. Sorry to be so dense, but how does one access the archives? Use the search function? |

Yep, it's right up there next to the FAQ button.
Enter terms like the name of the site in question (voices.com or Voice 123 for example) or pay sites, etc. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Jay... Just how deep are you into VO at the present time? Are you just thinking about starting out?... made any kind of recordings?... any training yet?... read any books?... bought any audio equipment? _________________ "Bailey"

Thanks to all for the warm welcome to the board.
Yes, it is verily true...I am from Yewwwwwwwwwwwwtaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!! Logan, Utah to be somewhat precise.
Over the years I have been in radio for 10 or so years..announcer, dj, copy writer, program director, asst. station manager. Then I got a life where I could make a living. Never did get over the itch to be in front of a mic. Took early retirement and am going to 'go for the gusto' and see if I can do a bit of VO work.
Recently took a once-weekly course for 5 weeks in Salt Lake City...got a good intro to VO....now I'm having to learn to be a voice actor..not an announcer!
Just bought Samson C94USBpak..large condensor mic, spider, desk stand, Sonar LE software with Cakewalk. One package...great price I think.. from Sweetwater.
Have read Harlan Hogan's "Tales and Techniques...', his "VO Guide to Home Recording" and am now reading James Alburger's "The Art of Voice Acting".
Plenty to learn and do.
Enjoying browsing the VO-BB site.
Best to all.......... |

Jay,
Great to have you join us. I'm relatively new, as well, and glean a lot of knowledge from this place. It's a safe place where there are no stupid questions.
