I was trying to send an .mp3 attachment this morning via e-mail to XXX@companyname.com. It kept firing back to me as non-deliverable (permanent error). So, I sent the file to her private e-mail, no problem. I also tried sending an e-mail without an attachment, and I was fine.

This afternoon, I was asked for my rate card. I attached and sent to companyname@verizon.com. Non-deliverable. I tried from a variety of accounts, all non-deliverable. So, I copy/paste my rates and sent a response with no attachments. Still non-deliverable.

Ugh! Is this a strange coincidence, or could something be wrong with my computer?

I should also add: I did send an attachment from both my e-mail accounts to my .mac account with no issue...wut up wit dat?

Kara,

I too have noticed some odd "non-deliverable" errors to emails (especially with attachments) of late. I wonder if it's because people are adding anti-spam measures? I've not been able to determine a consistent pattern, so far.

I'd better check again to see if they finally have it!

Bob,
The messages Kara is receiving would come from the servers hosting the email accounts most likely, not the user. Anything that is installed on a user's system doesn't normally have the ability to bounce emails back through and definitely not with a "non-deliverable" tag.

Kara,
So regular emails to those accounts go through, but ones with attachments don't? Be sure an email w/o any attachments is going through as a troubleshooting step.

To get around this, I sometimes post mp3s on my own server and then send the recipient there for a download... this gets around some of the file size restrictions that some mail servers have.

You guys rock Smile

I have an ftp site, so sending files isn't really an issue. However, I can't seem to get ANY e-mail to go through with my rates, attachment or no attachment.

I'm getting this from karaedwardsvo@hotmail.com:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Delivery to the following recipients failed.

And this from kara@karaedwardsvo.com:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

The e-mail I tried to send this morning with an audio file displayed this on the recipient's side:
SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host smtp.where.secureserver.net [64.202.166.12]:
554 The message was rejected because it contains prohibited virus or spam content

I have anti-virus on my computer (Kaspersky) and it hasn't found anything.

I was able to e-mail my macbook account with and without attachments. I just don't want this guy thinking I'm ignoring his e-mail. Yuck.

Other e-mails so far today are going through. In fact, I just had an e-mail exchange with a friend of mine. Weird man. Mello

Hmmm... it doesn't like the MP3 attachment. Try zipping the MP3, or change the extension of the file to something like 3PM and have them change it back when they get it. Something from that person's email server doesn't like the MP3 extension.

Orrrrrrr,
Try attaching it to an email that is TEXT only. Be sure there isn't any additional coding in your normal email that might confuse an email server. No HTML, Rich Text, etc...

It's not anything you are doing Kara, it's on the other end.

First off, an extra big THANK YOU to the Voice of Bob for calling today to make sure my e-mail was working (it is).

Second, I thought I should let you guys know what the studio assistant at today's session told me. Apparently there is a star and a planet, and perhaps a gallaxy that are all doing something strange.

I don't know astrology- but she claimed that traffic and communication will be messed up for 3 weeks.

Just so ya know! Smile

Well, holy cow— there was a massive internet failure in Asia, the middle east and North Africa today.

Crap, somebody's probably gonna blame that Near-Earth asteroid for this, even though the outage appears to have been caused by an old-fashioned cut cable.

I hate it when people use astronomy to try and explain things that are easily explainable once you understand the technology.

Of course... understanding the technology... there's the rub...

And we're right in the middle of it, too! Being a tech by day, I thought it was baloney. Now every time a bunch of stuff goes wonky at the same time, I go and check the retrograde cycle. So far, it's been pretty consistent.

Now I gotta go make a foil hat...

Kara, if those servers are still giving you problems, feel free to email me. I do that stuff for a living right now.

kara

several people i communicate with (or try to) in state government find it hit-and-miss with me because of the state's spam filters. not only do they not like attachments such as audio and document and graphics files, they take particular umbrage at my digital signature, which is a .jpg in the message.

i have to remember to delete it when i'm writing to them (or not, as it now seems...since i forgot to remove it a couple of times lately and my email was still allowed entrance).

as to the allignment of the planets today, i can concur. two different studios had lots of trouble connecting or being connected to via ISDN from my place today...for no discernable reason.

gremlins.

There was fax trouble between Boston and Miami today, too— one of my colleagues had to run to Staples to get scripts that would NOT print at the studio.
