That statement is patently absurd, Jadah.

If you must insult me, kindly do it privately.

You laid the whole thing out there for discussion. You got discussion. Now you gotta go with the discussion you got.

I don't fancy having it being insinuated that just because we may or may not agree with you that this is somehow proof that contrary opinions aren't wanted.

I'm with JK -- don't even go there if you can't support that accusation with proof. Just don't.

I missed this bit.

Nah, I've got too much time under my best to agree with this one. If true, people wouldn't be seeing both sides of this argument and finding the pearls of wisdom in both.

/seen too many disagreements in the gear and critique sections to agree

My grandfather always used to tell me that opinions were like armpits, pretty much everyone has 'em, and they all usually stink.

Message to be learned is that it's a fair bet that your opinion stinks as much as the next guy's so pay attention to what folks say, as there might be something you can learn from them.

Rob's got a good point, so does Jeff. I learned a bit from both, so nuff said!

Trick is in finding a happy medium...

Anyway, on that note I leave you with:

So you're saying that Robert is an old man? Talk about personal attacks!
Don't worry Robert! We can still be young at heart... no matter what they call us!

Darn it, Bailey...I thought he meant the spice.
And, as I gather up my contrary opinions and shuffle off to the Hades I was sent to, I can only regret the piddle on the carpet.
The House of VO-BB certainly deserves guests with more couth.

But how arguments such as:
"I typically mow my own lawn", "nifty Neumann mics made in China",
"Home-made DAWS", and "heh, heh, heh...I remember when AFTRA told me I couldn't self-produce"

qualify as discussion on this theme any more than does my abrupt "contrary opinion - considered though it may be - is not welcome here"
escapes me at the moment.
Just incipient Sage-ish dementia, I guess.

Good Lord, Robert. It's called humor.
It was a tangent— it often happens in conversations among friends.

And your trip to the Netherworld has been rescinded because, no matter how peeved I may get, you don't deserve to publicly be on the receiving end of my bad manners.

I think most of us are trying to show that we know that undercutting in pricing happens in a wide variety of industries. While we all see the irony you outlined in your original post, I think quite a few were left asking "....and?".

In my day job, I have to tell folks time and time again that the PC their cousin built in his garage for the price of parts has gone teets-up after only a year because they used cheap parts in the name of ending up with a computer. They could have bought a name-brand with a good warranty, but instead they have to pay me to replace their motherboard or what-not. At least, that's what I tell them; whether they actually go ahead and have me do the work is another story.

To get back to the original jist of the thread: No doubt there's a grass-roots movement by veteran web developers to keep web page design standards up. I have no idea. I'd imagine that there are those who charge a pretty penny for their Flash development but don't want to spend a lot of money for the VO because that cost will eat into their profits. It's a universal problem.

I happen to do my own pages, so I have pretty much eliminated that cost.

Geez, Greg..you're speaking for most of my clients there.
And, Deirdre, might we similarly attribute my outburst to peevishness?

(I went to Hell and back this evening anyway. "No, no, we want you to keep that mid-Atlantic sound," said the client, "But try to be a little American with it."
There were many takes.)

I don't suppose there's a "Fast Pass" for that ride, seeing as how standing in a long line would actually be part of the Hell experience.

You can still use EZ pass to get to parts of DC, is that close enough?

And from the East Coast there are still plenty of direct flights to Georgetown, Grand Caymans (one of the major sections of the city is named "Hell" for all the lava flows which the city is built around).
