I care. And I also am glad to see that the Apostrophe Mafia didn't sneak into your post to make it professional's. Drives me up the wall, and it seems I'm seeing it more and more.
Supposively, people are supposed to be educated.
See what I did there? I made myself laugh out loud. _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

This is the month that drives both of us here at Petersen Hacienda batty. Listening to the news and radio announcers saying FebUary...and we both say "FebRUUUary!!!"
can't wait for March. It's pretty hard for them to mess that up.
At least they're not having to report on Nuke-U-lar problems in FebUary. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

You know of course, the professionals need to go to the lib-r-ary (not the lib-a-ry) off-en (not off-ten) to learn how to speak engrish...
But, we IS voiceover per-fesh-e-nals, ain't we?

I care, the same malaise is slipping into the BBC which used to pride itself on 'correct' pronunciation.
There used to be a small pronunciation unit at Broadcasting House in London and their entire function was to standardise words across the entire range of BBC broadcast channels and programmes. My father used to be continuity and news on BBC Scotland many years ago and if there was a coup in some small African nation, all he would have to do was to call the unit and they would let him know the required precise pronunciation. Sadly, the BBC let this slip when the re-organised resources and the unit started having to be paid for its info from programme budgets rather than funded centrally. If it costs us why do we care!!!!!!! Its a slippery slope.....as for pronunciation on children's programing...don't let me get started.
Mr Nove can probably correct me if I have gone substantially wrong above, but that was what and how it was explained to me. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

when i was 17, my first radio boss smacked me on the back of the head (hard) when she heard me say Feb-u-ary ... it has been Feb-roo-ary for me ever since. she was also hung up on via - VI-uh rather than VEE-uh, as in ... "we join AP network news live via satellite". (yes, i actually had to say that twice an hour) _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I had one of those radio jobs. The best part was when the kibble came out the shoot after I did a good job of announcing the satellite programming. I WAS a good boy... Goooood boy.... _________________ Greg Littlefield

there's a host d00d on a local npr affiliate here that says "libary." what makes it REAL bad is that the studio is on "Libary Square"

I just recorded a radio spot here in Chicago that used February many times in the script. I began by reading it correctly, but the producer and engineer both wanted me to say "Feb-u-ary." Now I know this is wrong, and embarrassingly, my wife (who is an writer and editor) knows this is wrong, and most of my well-educated family and friends know this is wrong. BUT. It is a hell of a lot easier to say when you're reading 35 seconds of copy for a 30 second script. And truth be told, I think most people pronounce it the easier way, and I'm totally okay with that.
Do we correct people when they say the phrase "compact disc" without saying the "t" on compact? NOBODY says it the way it is spelled because it's just too darn awkward. So I say hooray for "Febuary"! _________________ Best regards,
