I vote for Liz de Nesnera.

And if she hadn't been around to snap up my vote, then Philip would have gotten it.

I'd have to say Liz also. The clip perfectly sums up her considerable appeal. Smile

(Melissa gets my runner-up vote, though.)

Yikes...still time to play? I had to use a different server as I'm still having some issues with my main one. Anyway, Here it be! If nothing else, it will prove that it's time to update the demo(s) Smile

Philip - are you going to post a Poll? This challenge was much like the NBC Announcer voting. But here you have a more focused effort. Or not - is this a generic :10 that you send out to everyone - or a focused :10 that goes to your commercial clients, or your eLearning clients - or something that is simply for fun. I heard all of those here, so deciding which to "pick" is pretty difficult.

Here are my favs in listening order: (David J's crashed my browser by the way - never heard it.)

Philip - understated, focused
Liz - yep - except that I would flip flop the last two cuts.
Melissa - so much fun - and the Spanish was a big suprise
Bob S. - really "you" (love that Meadowbrook piece)
Todd - great selections
Doug - lots of stuff, but it didn't feel rushed - I think this one sells Doug in a broad sense much like Liz' and Melissa's.

It's okay Bailey, mine's not gettin' any traction either... why don't you and me go and have a beer and plan the overthrow of western civilization?

Devil

But seriously, I'd have to go with Liz, too... the French was a delight! and it all worked out so well.

The stated challenge...

Quote:
Sell your voice in a 10 second demo. Your sounds, your experience, your reads, your personality in 10 seconds.

Everyone of the demos (except for the one crashing the browsers - and perhaps the one that was created entirely from scratch specifically for this exercise) achieved the goals of the second sentence.

The key for me in whittling down the list was to put on my producer hat and critically (and quite subjectively of course) determine if the demo "sold" the voice.

Connie,

I always find it hard to be objective about how these things sound. I think that Philip had an excellent idea here, not just for us to "show off" our stuff, but for us to gain some objectivity about how we sound. It's not so much the prize (chocolates are hard to pass uHobo Happy but I DO care about the lesson learned. Clever man, our Mr. Banks.

I used the term "subjective" in a different way I think.

Yes, the key to knowing when something is hitting the mark is to be able to objectively evaluate it - this is something that I have been writing and speaking about for years now - Self-Evaluation techniques.

And yes, our Banksey is a very smart cookie. No matter how long we do this - or how good we are (or how good people tell us we are), we need these exercises to force us to think objectively.

I used "subjective" in relation to the "sell" part of the challenge. If I was a producer buying a particular talent - what would I want - that kind of subjective. In my particular imaginary casting I was listening for variety in pacing and, performance and a "national" sound.

Connie,

Oh, absolutely true.

I know what I like when I hear someone ELSE do it. The trick now, as you say, is to apply to that to my work and see it through their eyes/ hear it through their ears.

Good point...

Connie and Bailey,
Sorry for "crashing" your browser. I only wanted to fit in... Cry

Seriously, I just went back to my post to see if something was askew, and the 10-second "reel" pulled right up. Dunno what gives....
