|
|
Hello to all at what I have come to understand is the only real VO forum on the 'net... ...glad to be here-
I'm Peter Ganim, an actor/director in New York who began dabbling in VO in the early 1990s, but whose VO career has taken off in the last three years...couldn't be more pleased...very exciting to be part of such a great community at such an aggressively active period of growth...(ain't technology grand? I still can't quite grasp that my most recent clients have been halfway around the globe.)
Though I am quietly suspecting that I may not garner entirely candid responses to the following question, (given the broad, naked nature of these forums)...I'm asking anyhow:
How valuable to your VO business (and, I suppose, in what ways) do you imagine VOICE 2008 will be? Was VOICE 2007 directly impactful to your bottom line or was it a unique and rewarding social opportunity? Do you plan to attend VOICE 2008...and, if so, why?
I realize that I am fresh-faced and unknown...my trustworthiness, I suppose, has yet to be established...so a PM is welcomed if you prefer anonymity.
Thanks for your time, everyone-
and, thanks to Deirdre for maintaining such an affectionate community of folks...I've been impressed, (as I've lurked these past few months), by the generosity, the camaraderie...and the sheer amplitude of experience and knowledge.
Gratefully and enthusiastically-

Welcome aboard Peter!
As a long-time VO I found VOICE 2007 experience to be...and these are just numbers out of the air....15% new and useful information, 20% helpful confirmation of things I already knew, 25% information I just didn't need to hear about, and 40% camaraderie and networking. All in all quite worth it. Plus, it's the only "annual convention" we have for this segment of the industry (for now).
The Alburger/Abshire team promise more seminars geared toward the professional, so the "new and useful" information quotient may go up a bit for those of us fully immersed in the biz.
I hope this helps,

Peter,
I would echo Bruce's rough estimates of the value of VOICE 2007. Being able to connect in person with so many others (includes lots of folks from this board) was the single largest benefit to me personally.
Yes, I'm planning to attend VOICE 2008. And I am making plans to bring my soon to graduate high school eldest son, Eric, with me as he is going to be working with me in my voiceover business for the next year before making a final decision about college. _________________ Be well,

Hi Peter!
Welcome! I'm a Native NYer who now lives in Northern NJ (as do a few of us on this board!...in NJ I mean)
ANYWAY: YES Voice 2007 was TOTALLY worth it for me. Both on the information front AND the social/networking front which is not to be ingnored. I made friends there who have become fixtures in my world...whether THEY like it or NOT!
As to where I came from: I started in the biz in Radio Production in 1989, went to work behind the glass till 2005 and have been fulltime VO since then. VOICE2007 was a HUGE help to my freelance career.
As to whether I'll be going to VOICE208....am still figuring out logistics.....but for me the fact that CourVO, & Bob are going (SO cool that you're bringing Eric, Bob!!!!) is a huge draw for me...and that Pat'll be there too...well...we'll see....
But in a nutshell, YES VOICE2007 Rocked the house.
I come in to NYC for sessions, would love to mee for coffee!!!
See ya!

Thanks again, guys-

peter --- welcome!
love your avatar!
is that a lapel patch ... or ... what ?
about VOICE 2007, i'll say bruce's math adds up (i counted the percentages in my head, savant that i am) and that's a great capsule of what happened in vegas (allowing the rest of what happened in vegas to stay in vegas.)
that didn't help at all, did it? _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Greg,
I very much look forward to that. And Peter, I neglected to say "welcome to the VO-BB" when I posted earlier. _________________ Be well,

Welcome Peter!
I didn't go last year (dang wedding of mine!) but I'm planning to go this year. I'm not as experienced as a lot of folks here, so I expect to learn a thing or two, but I'm looking just as forward to the social aspects of it, since I've yet to meet any VO-BBers IRL. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Liz,
In just about exactly a month we will, because I'm going to be in Belfast (I know technically Northern Ireland, not Ireland) for a week. _________________ Be well,
