Hi Peter, welcome!
I'm going to voice 2008 because I want to meet everyone I speak to on the forums and I really want to learn from some of the speakers lined up. I think it will be fun and I'm sure there'll be plenty of interesting people to meet! I'm am very exited about it! _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

Hi Peter... good to greet you here in the matrix....
I'll C U in August in LA for sure, 'cause I've been asked to reprise my role as MC/introducer at the event.
No smoke + great hotel + qualified presenters + Bob Souer + Liz de Nesnera (and others) = a must-attend event!
Bruce's breakdown didn't quite work for me 'cause there was NOTHING I "..didn't need to hear about". However, Bruce and perhaps you are waaaay out in front of what I need to know.
Bob....I thought you were going to a Dan O'Day event scheduled the same weekend?

Dave,
Dan's event isn't scheduled yet, at least not that I know of. I'm hoping it will be a different weekend in August so I can get to all of both events. _________________ Be well,

Again - thanks very much to everyone for their hearty welcomes as well as the "goods" = all the generous info on the convention/event this summer-
I've yet to make a decision...based on a number of factors ( I've got a couple of other irons in the fire...and I'm stretching funds to accomodate all of them!) - but, at this point, my great hope is that I'll be there...with bells on...which will most likely annoy the hell out of everyone-
Thanks, everyone, great to be here-

Greetings, Peter! As you can probably tell, you're gonna fit right in to this group of certifiable voiceover enthusiasts.
And as for having a couple of irons in the fire, I can totally relate. Over the last couple of years, I've been slacking off on my "continuing education" plans (figuring out this whole fatherhood thing takes time), so I'm trying to make up for that this year by attending a few good VO learning opportunities. VOICE 2008 is definitely on that list. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Are you trying to butter me up by putting me in the same league as Bob to help me make my final decision???....Just so you know....It's working!
Still not totally sure....but I will make my decison by April 15th.

And I imagine Bob's feeling rather buttered, having been put in your league.

If it helps, keep in mind that the money you spend on attending is totally tax deductible.*

Awwwww
Liz feeling VERY buttered up now....hmmmmmm and suddenly hungry!
Believe it or not, it's not the money that's so much the issue....more like other "stuff" & caregiving logistics....

Liz,
I hear ya and understand, but given the disappointment of losing the Vegas trip for those reasons, I just figured you'd redouble your efforts to make it to VOICE.
Hope so....and BTW, that was real butter....not the fake stuff.

I'll keep ya posted!
...and DUH, I wouldn't accept anything BUT the real stuff!!!

Hi Peter,
Welcome to the party- I"m sure you'll like it here. It's a nice respite from the shark infested waters elsewhere. This is the dolphin tank- leave your ego at the door, jump in and have fun. You will find some of the most genuine and generous VO folk on the planet in these confines.
Regarding VOICE. I did go to 07 and it was one of those life changing experiences. The most amazing part for me was to be in the middle of a conference room surrounded by people who did what I do and meeting friends for the first time - it was such a treat to be in a group of people who understood the beauty of a good edit, questions on proper compression and green apples vs. spritzes for dry mouth...Bruce's numbers worked for me too.
Although the speakers were awesome and there was great info and encouragement all around, most of my hands on learning came outside of the forums. Only because I'm a tactil learner - seminars only get the info in so far...for me. Every night cap was a break out session, every breakfast was a marketing seminar, every down moment was a chance to ask 'that specific question' to someone a little further up the path than me...or time to answer a question from someone a little further down the path from me....Plus it solidified friendships and reinforced the VO-BB networking infrastructure.
I don't know what it's like for folks in the big cities, but I can tell you that for them of us off the beaten track doing voice work is very isolating (and potentially a lonely) experience....The VO-BB is my lifeline- and the information garnered here on a daily basis is as good as anything available at any VO seminar or workshop....plus my friends are here....and that as they is say "priceless"
That being said. I'm not going to Voice 08. Staying close to home and doing weekend workshops here and there. Honestly I wonder if Voice 07 was an anomaly. It will be interesting to hear from attendees from this year.
Okay....I've had way too much coffee...Oh, by the way Peter...I love Moon River...one of those songs if it hits me in the right mood gets the eyes all misty...Anyway...a long winded welcome from New England _________________ Moe Egan
