I have not had good luck with Throat Coat. Had to sing a gospel kind of song one morning, and kept a large cup of Throat Coat at my side prior to performance. Long, sad story short--I found out why it's called Throat Coat--had so much gunk in my throat that I could barely get through the song.
Timing must be an issue? Like, drink it the night before because it is soothing? |

I don't think I know what "break night" is. Sounds like what I usually do after I eat too much garlic.... _________________ Jeff

Umm... I like my neti pot and all, but I always end up sounding all nasally for an hour or so after I use it. Not sure I'd neti so early in the ayem... but YMMV. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Always there to help - the VO-BB.
You need at least half an hour prior to you session to warm up. I have a 5:00 a.m. call three times a week, I am awake at 4:30 a.m. and do a little practice run of a spot or two approximately fifteen minutes prior to the session.
O.K., so my voice is three octaves lower to start with, but never-mind that; just do a spot or two to get the brain working with the lips and you should be fine.
Good luck.
Toodles

Thanks all. Looks like the recording has been pushed a day so I'm hoping they'll be able to accomodate an afternoon sesh instead.
Good info for future use, though. _________________ Jeff

Well, I'm a day late but here's what I got from a local voice coach (http://www.thevoicecoach.com/) when I mentioned that in the morning I sound like Barry White chewing gravel:
"It's acid reflux. Don't eat after 7pm." |

Breaking night is what happens when you wake up one day and don't go to sleep until sometime the NEXT day. You simply stay awake until you get the job done then go nighty night. _________________ Joe Rodriguez, Bilingual Voice Actor | The Voiceover Thespian Blog |

I only do that if I have to take a 6am flight outta Boston.
Watch Craig Fergusson, Have a cup of tea and get to the bus station by 2:45 to take at 3am bus to Logan.
Boatloads o' fun.
real crisp on arrival.
In re early morning gigs: I get up and have a cup of hot Tetley tea.
Yeah, real hot, black, caffienated tea, with milk and sugar.
Then I read the copy aloud before the session.
Tea and warming up.
Go to gether like a . . .
Like. . .
Uh.
Sorry— got up too early for a gig today.
just kidding. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Ressurecting this 'cause....It's 5am...have to be on a bus at 6:15am to be in the city by 7:15a (Port Authority @ 41st & 8th) to have time to walk over to 26th & 6th for an 8AM session (3 lines in English)...then walk over to 35th & 8th for an 8:45am session (5 lines in French) to be back on the bus by 9:30am to get back home by 10:30am before Mom wakes up! (Brian is staying home a bit later till I get home .so I can do these short sessions!)
The glamorous life of voiceover!
I LOVE my job!

Jeffrey, I know this one is going to be very, very difficult for you, but try to lay off the booze the night before.
What's with the advice about not drinking any coffee? I'm curious why that would be.
Now for the thread about "How can I keep my morning voice ALL DAY?!? |
