Hi gang,
Do you feel that whether you stand up or sit down while recording makes a difference in your reading performance?
I've just readjusted my set up so that I can stand while recording (I've been working mostly sitting down, unless I was doing some character acting that required standing or moving). When I'm in a on-location studio we stand up.
I'm wondering if standing might be better for my breathing, etc.
What position do you guys typically use when working and why?
I'm always looking to improve my work. Thanks for your input. You're great!
Cheers!

Most of the time I sit on a high stool. If you're an actor surely you can act as if you're standing whilst sitting in comfort. |

I prefer standing most of the time. Except when a client has no copy stand , in which case I'd much rather sit.
I feel, though, that I'm 'better' when standing, because I can be more loose and animated when needed. _________________ Lou Zucaro

I'm obese, so I have to stand just to be able to breathe to do the read. |

I stand, because I feel I have better control over my delivery and breath...and I'm not as good an actor as Philip!
I also tend to slouch when I sit!

Standing. This is what is usually recommended. Philip, of course, defies convention but that's what we love about him! |

I got my start in radio and all the control boards were always high up so you had to stand or use the high stool. Once I got serious into voice-overs I noticed that there was more depth (think that's the word?) in my voice standing then sitting down.
Something I saw on American Idol a few years ago and never tried myself is lying down to achieve more "depth". Anyone ever try this? |

Haven't done a supine read, I must say.
I am usually sitting for my million radio spots, occasionally I'll perch on the end of my office chair if I have to really crank one out.
I'll stand for a screamin' motorcycle or car sales ad.
I'll stand if it's an active character piece.
I'll sit if it's a passive character piece, like when a VG character speaks directly to the player.
Sometimes, I'll even slouch and/or put my elbow on my desk and lean my cheek on it.
If I'm singing, I'll stand. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Standing, mostly. I'm working on one part right now that calls for a lady of langorous attitude, and I found that I get the most langor out of her when I sit. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Stand.
I always stand.
There is no chair in my studio.
There is no room for a chair in my studio.
I plant my 13 EEEE's and stand.
Later, I rub my feet
