...the motocross (and monster truck and rodeo and bullriding and tractor-pull) TV spots that air in the greater Boston market? They may also run nation wide. You'd know it if you heard it. He sort of ramps up in energy and pitch...then he comes back down. He always sounds either PO'd (or constipated).
Every time I see one of those ads I get a big grin on my face, as I can only imagine the talent reading the thing. When I was engineering/producing at a studio, I had a client who brought in a DAT with the VO for a spot he was doing and I started playing it and practically burst out laughing. It was this particular talent and he was doing the spot in his inimitable "style".
I'm sure he's laughing all the way to the bank, but I'm just a little curious about the guy behind the voice.
And if it's anyone here...no offense intended. |

Hey Don,
I could be completely off base since I'm not familiar with your market specifically, but I know that Zeus does a bunch of similar stuff nationally...
If you're not familiar with him his website is http://www.zeusthevoice.com/
Like I said, I may be wrong, but give his site a look see.

I'm not familiar with those commercials, but you might want to check the talent on Tour Design's website. I believe they are still part of Clear Channel, producing national content for major touring events, like motocross, monster truck ralleys and bands. _________________ Genus |

Hi Don,
Although I can't be certain about the Boston market I do know that the lion's share of all the national monster truck...sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!!! spots originate here in Houston.
About 10 blocks from my home is Bill Moffett...he has been doing them for years. His website is www.moffett.com if you would like to hear samples.
Another producer of event type marketing spots is Bill Young. Although he no longer does any VO's personally, (lost his voice from too much laughing while at the bank) his company, a genuine 3,000 pound gorilla in the industry with a staff of 150 is responsilbe for a huge percentage of the event commercials heard nationwide on radio and tv. Now this is driving me crazy.
Thanks to all of you thus far, but so far I haven't heard the guy I'm talking about. I contacted my client and he says the guy's name is David Lee and he's (or at least was) out of Michigan. The phone number my client gave me comes up with "no listing".
Google searches are proving fruitless, especially after I tell it not to include "Roth" in the results. There is one Paul David Lee who is a voice guy, but he's not the one. You'd think there'd be a web site, but maybe he's too dang busy that he doesn't need the business. Or more likely there's an agent involved.
The hunt continues. Keep the ideas coming if you have any. And thanks again. |

All these great voiceover artists. Hope I can be counted among that list sometime in the future.
