In 1932 actor Stanley Holloway recorded a monologue called "The Lion and Albert". My exercise for today was to try to recreate the sound (not specifically Stanley's voice) and the spirit of the piece.

The Lion and Albert

It makes a change from "Tonight at 9 on ....."

Philip

Thanks for posting this great read and thanks to Liz for posting the script, I look forward to hearing her read also.

Being that I am half Holloway, Arella Elezabeth Holloway, that’s my Mother, I wanted to give it a go. Ive parked the mp3 at this site http://voice123.com/edgambill named The Lion and Albert, no intent to promote any service just a place to put it.

Process Method Peluso 22-251, Edirol UA-25, Audcity on Gateway LapTop, Edited on Compact DeskTop using SoundForge 9.0. Mild compression only no EQ or other effects

Here's me with a bad British-ish accent.

Lou's Lion

And yes, in case you're wondering, my name IS Amy Walker, I'm 25, and I was born in the UK-ish.

Ed and Amy, uh, I mean Lou:
I'd hesitate to follow you guys with my humble submission, were it not for the fact that Mr. Banks will submit his rendition and clean all our clocks. And I've never been the sort to let lack of talent stop me from doing anything.
Fellows, your treatments were both marvelous. Lou you've got a lock on that south Georgia dialect.
Only did about the first third so as not to wear on your nerves. Thanks for letting me play.

This is fab! I love this group and taking part. My turn! By the way, ignore the wording in the link about watching anything, it's just a soundfile. Shocked

The thing I love most about all these exercises is how different we all sound.
Yeah, I know: DUH! Rolls Eyes
But it's so much fun to hear what each of do with the same script!

Once again, Philip: Thanks for the fun...and yeah....a quite bit different from "Tonight at 9 on ....." Kiss

Done well or done badly it's a great way to learn and improve performance skills. Did anyone find and listen to the Stanley Holloway original, considered by many people here in the UK who are " of a certain age" as something of a classic?

Holding a mood, character or accent for a few seconds is one thing but managing to hold on top it for an entire piece is quite another.

Philip if you have a link to him doing that I would love to hear it. From the script page it would seem it's a song? I'll try a search and see what I can find without having to register to hear it. The script reminded me a lot of a benny hill thing. I'm thinking I may have even heard him do it cause he was in my head while I was doing it.
It was fun to do.

Here is a link to Stanley Holloway's version. http://www.lulu.tv/?p=15852

The reason this is a week late is because my new Fast Track Pro is finally installed and I've benn learning how to use Sound Forge. This has been able to happen thanks to the home schooling I've been receiving from the amazing and wonderful Bob Souer!!! Any errors are mine.

I do think my dialect may have roamed around England and over to Ireland. but it was fun anyways.

I'm just so happy that I can now play in all the vo-bb games with the other children.

This here is a mea culpa— I had the code for Chrissy's link wrong.

It's all better now!

Carry on.
