I can't believe I wasted all that time and money, when someone had a 2 minute video laying out the whole thing. Geez, live and learn.

Hmm, ok, but, uh...

1) Make a demo tape. Tape? As in...tape? Great idea! Just don't forget to give it to the Pony Express so that they can deliver it to Mr. Drucker over in Petticoat Junction!

2) Find a teacher such as a talent agent or somebody who works for a major ad agency. Hahahahahahahahaha. That's hilarious. I'm sorry, I shouldn't be so sarcastic. Let me take that suggestion a bit further. Find a teacher such as a talent agent who has no other talent, no clients, and who doesn't spend all of her / his time trying to stay in business while dealing with paymasters who can't seem to "remember" to send out checks for those silly little residuals.

3) Read books because producers don't want to waste their time on an artist who doesn't know the correct pronunciation of words. Super idea. Just make sure that when you buy your copy of War & Peace from Amazon, that it's the version with the pronunciation guide CD in the little pocket in the back. Hopefully you should not have to spend money on this extra expense if the vocabulary-improving book you choose to read is The Cat in the Hat.

4) Did you know that Julia Roberts enjoyed a seven-figure payday doing a voiceover for AOL in 2006? Did you also know that she's Julia Frickin Roberts?

Only 10 easy steps! Well, at least she started with "get training". I don't think we can argue with that one.

OK. I thought to myself...there must be more helpful and informational videos like this! And, there are! So, go to YouTube and type "Howcast" in the search box at your own risk.

I just did that. Typed in "howcast" in search. Do you think the results are ranked in order of popularity? "How to make yourself irresistible to girls" was just one above "how to enable and configure folder action scripts" I'm sure that tells us something, but I can't quite put my finger on it....

If you want to become a pilot. you will need

Step 1

Some training
A plane
Somewhere to fly it

Step 2

Find someone who has been on a plane who can tell you about it and introduce you to industry jargon and parlance...such as 'cabin doors to manual', do you need ice with that sir/madam' and 'what does that big red button do exactly'.

Step 3

Learn to parlay that experience you picked up by osmosis into practical applications like

not under-pitching,
not mis-stressing words or giving unwarranted emphasis at the wrong point in the line.

Step 4

Make a nice recording using high quality equipment and give a copy to your mum, she'll love it and will tell you how good you are and how all her friends love what you do.

Step 5

Don't walk through a big city holding a book in front of your face pretending to read, you will only get in trouble.

That original video had me totally convinced until I saw the typo in the letter she was sending out with her demo. As soon as I saw intersted, all the other stuff went right out the window. (Yes, I'll admit that curiosity got the better of me and I watched the entire clip.)

BTW, Robert's clip had much more sound advice. Smile

Oh my lord Robert that is fantastic.

But the scariest part is that the original clip link wasn't meant to be funny.

Doesn't Marc Graue have several of these kinds of things that are really pretty fun to watch?

hey folks, I wonder if that was meant to be subtley tongue-in-cheek. The "how to date multiple women" makes me wonder if the whole thing was meant to be a joke.

No! I refuse to believe it! I particularly enjoyed "How to Make Money as a Street Performer" and intend to follow "How To Hide Easter Eggs" to the LETTER this weekend!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get a bright green tank top and gym shorts...
