I can't wait!!! I haven't been in about 4 years, and I'm so excited to be going back. Je parle très peu le français, but I always try and I think because I at least make the effort and my accent is halfway decent the Parisians seem to respond pretty well--in fact, I've had the opposite of the stereotypical experience. Every time I've gone, I feel like people have gone out of their way to be kind and helpful! I absolutely love London (and the Brits), but found the people in that city to be far ruder on the whole. Generally though, I think some people have bad experiences traveling because they're not good travelers. We get them all the time here in NYC too . . .
So what is your background--are you from France? Did you live there?
One of these days I'm going to get to the Côte d'Azur . . . sigh |

Ray,
You will LOVE Cote D'Azur.
Also, if you ever have a chance, take a few days to visit around Avignon. We did and loved it. Spoke French some, but mostly ran into locals who wanted to try out their English. And, then there those experiences where we all ended up speaking a mash of both and using our hands and arms a lot.
Have a great time wherever you land. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Your speaking of that special mustard, Grey Poop-on right? Sounds French to me. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Background? LOOOONG story!
Short version:
Mom: Russian raised in Paris
Dad: Hungarian raised in what is now Slovakia
Their common language was French..so that became the family language.
I was raised on 92nd & West End Ave. in NYC
Attended the Lyçée Français de NY in NYC from 7th grade through High School
Attended Fordham College @ Rose Hill in the Bronx & spend my Jr. year of College at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris in Paris
I spent many summers besides my Jr. year of college in & around Paris as well as Brittany & Burgundy.
...and now....I'm....in....NJ!
That's it!

Me too...haven't been in years, but I used to go for trade shows once a year. Always had very pleasant dealings with the French people.
Maybe it's just Paris where the stereotypical attitude is played out? Never really spent any time there...was always in Cannes / Nice area.
The one thing I did find humorous is that whenever I needed something really urgently (a certain type of power cord or video cable, etc.) I would go to the trade show booth that handled such things, where I was immediately told "I'm sorry, but it is impossible."
If, in such circumstances, you put up a fuss or make demands, have fun getting nothing done. If, on the other hand, you make a pouty face, furl your brow and have a generally heavy-lidded expression on your face without saying a word, after a few seconds, the guy behind the counter would say "Except if you go across the street to that shop...they have them there." _________________ Lou Zucaro
