Someone asked me ...What next?
Monday 1050
ISDN
TV commercial
Booked by the producer
But when they asked what for? I responded, no idea, the producer didn't say and they were amazed I wasn't given at least a week to prepare.

Well, Monday I wear my audio engineer's cap for a Rooms To Go tv spot...Tuesday @ 11am I'm doing a website for Nortel Networks Multimedia Communications Server. The French client may or may not call in: they chose my UKish-Translatlanticky voice (don't laugh, I do it often) since it matches their spokesman quite well. Fun. I'd love to see a script sometime. Will probably get it very late on Monday, which is fine. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Surprised you weren't given a week to prepare?!
Is that normal??
I did one of four parts in 17 pages of medical-ish narration for Prevacid on Wednesday...was handed the script just before going into the booth. In my experience, that's normal.
Even on the occasion where I get a script in advance, I try to think of it as reference only, since it usually changes before the session anyway. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Dianne Maggipinto in Utah and I in Phoenix are doing a two person medical narration Monday morning while the client listens in in Quebec. Nifty.
I'm doing 180 words of narration for a business presentation on Wednesday and my agent is negotiating a $600 rate because I'll play three different characters with different voices.
And as far as scripts in advance, almost never. I've been doing this so long that it's much faster for me to just cold read and re-do the occasional stumble than to pre-read the entire thing then do it again.

Heh.
Wednesday, I've been booked as "background" (read: "extra") for the Kevin James film shooting in Burlington, Mass.
Otherwise, I'm unemployed. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Monday morning at 10, narration for part two of a 100+ page script for.....um.....er....some government thing, in all its mile-long sentence, CYA legalese, full-of-acronym glory. But, I'm not complaining. Woik is woik, y'know, and I'm always happy to have it.
And I agree about scripts ahead of time. Rarely do we get them, and if I do, beyond a cursory check for weird pronunciations or terrible grammar that will come back and bite us in the butt, I much prefer to read 'em cold. |

Monday afternoon I board a plane for Newark, NJ; but (sorry Liz and Melissa) I'll only be there long enough to board a connecting flight to Belfast, Northern Ireland. I land in Belfast Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM Greenwich, clear customs and then find a ride from the Belfast International Airport to Belfast City Airport. From there I board Flybe Flight BE117 to Aberdeen, Scotland. An hour later, hopefully Mr. Banks will be sufficiently recovered from his brutal session on Monday morning so he can collect me for a day long adventure in his lovely part of the world.
Oh, and given the option, I do like to read a script over in advance. That's happened maybe 5 times in the last 25 years. _________________ Be well,

Interesting, the perception of people from outside of our world is that we get a least a weeks notice for everything.
I was moving things around in my office late this afternoon (looks like the Somme) and a job arrived.
"Why now?"
"On air tomorrow morning!" |

Clearly, NOTHING is going to beat Bob's awesome week- wow!
I spent the entire day today (and yesterday) working on a project that is due first thing tomorrow morning. I've just finished and sent it on.
Tomorrow I have a session with our local government channel (GOV-TV) at 10am for a show I host. Then I'll spend the afternoon working on any revisions from this weekend's project.
Tuesday 10:30am I'll be in Florence, SC shooting a series of TV commercials for a car dealership. At some point this week I'll have a rehearsal for a web video I'm filming next week.
That's all that's on the schedule for now. Well, besides a hair cut _________________ Threadjackers local 420

8AM tomorrow morning.
Don't know what it is, but told it'll take a good 1.5 - 2 hours and that it's a bit more technical than the normal fare.
Until I get into the booth, more than a few of the sessions as of late have been of that nature. Kinda sucks having all the gear when I'm not recording at home either...
/pay is good so I don't mind too much _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I rarely get more than an hour and a half notice for a booking, so I have no idea, other than the TV stations, what I'll be doing from one day to the next. Last week, there was an exception. I knew a few days in advance that I was booked for a radio spot. It's usually just a phone call saying "can you be ready to record in a half hour?"
It would be easier to tell you what I did last week than what I'll be doing next week. But not nearly as exciting or as fun as not knowing what's around the next corner. I might have a half a dozen bookings. Maybe none. That's what keeps it all interesting and fresh. |

My week....Monday I have 12 MOH scripts for a retail client with ..well, 12 locations. Tuesday I get to go to my favorite local studio (next to mine)- the gig is for a local amusement park's in park annoouncements - the job my kids get the biggest kick out of....later in the week I've got a 30 page narration coming in...the rest of the week will fill in as the days go (that's how it usually works).
99% of the time I don't get stuff ahead of time either. The only job I ask for ahead of time to woodshed is an IT podcast. _________________ Moe Egan
