Hey everyone!
I tried to look for extracting audio under search but it says there is a debugging error or something like that. So if this has been mentioned in past posts I apologize.
A talent agent recently told me she believes my animation demo sounds fake. On my own, I've gotten lots of bit parts in anime shows and thought about making a new animation demo using audio bits from the programs I've voiced on dvd. When I brought this up to the agent she said extracting audio from dvds is near impossible and discouraged the idea.
In the end she turned me down due to 'lack of experience'.
So I was wondering if anyone knows about extracting audio from dvds. Can it be done and is it worth doing? Or should I just redo my animation demo from scratch again?
Hope everyone is well.
Take care,

Depends on what applications you're using.
It's a piece of cake with Audition 1.5 or better and Premiere 2.0
I can do it readily using AVID or PT as well.
That said, the question you have to ask yourself is whether or not the clips are worth using in your demo in the first place. If you're doing bit parts, is that what you want to show a potential client?
Show your best stuff always.
On the side, can you provide us with a link to the aforementioned animation demo?
Who knows... might be something folks can fix right here _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Mary,
A quick google on "extracting audio" and DVD turned up a link to this site
http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=170548
which seems to offer you a few different options. Since I've not used any of the tools show there, I'm certainly not endorsing any of them. And of course, much depends on whether you're using a Windows or Mac computer. _________________ Be well,

Hi Yoda117,
I've had my demo critiqued on two occasions at vo-bb.com
Here's a link to my website if you want to have a listen.

Unfortunately I was one of those folks suckered into making a demo WAYYYY before I got proper training and experience. Afterwards, I was advised to have the demo redone with a more professional source, that's the one posted on my website. I haven't gotten jobs yet despite lots of auditions.
I'm not sure how I got to do anime. Lots of praying I guess. The bit parts are getting bigger. I've just recently gotten a small role that does voice work through out 26 episodes of one show.
The animation track on my website is not from actual programs. But if I used material from the anime shows I've done, that would be legit stuff right?
When I listen to demos on voicebank.net I'm certain lines and characters are from real shows. I figured perhaps extracting audio from my experience with anime would be proof that I've done actual voice work.
Thank you so much for taking time to post your thoughts!

that talent agent who says extracting audio from a dvd is near impossible is the one suffering from lack of experience.
although there are several ripping programs one could use, the easiest way to get what you need is:
1. get the dvd.
2. run a patch cord from the analog audio outputs of your dvd player.
3. plug it into your computer's "line in".
4. open any audio recording software, play the portion of the dvd you need, and record it.
5. done.
unless you have your dvd player set to only play out digital audio, that'll work. and you can easily change the output settings on your player, if need be, just for the task at hand.
hope that helps. _________________ rowell gormon
