First time in a new store today. I reached for the dressing room door at Dick's Sporting Goods (which happened to be locked) & immediately a familiar yet serious voice boomed over the PA: "Begin Security Camera Scan, Area 3!" Was I in Area 3? Is that what happens when you touch a locked dressing room door? I dunno, but it startled the heck outta me!

Connie, was that your voice?

I'll have to check with my main In Store client - he sends me a variety of stores every week. Frankly I don't remember! I don't THINK so, but I could be wrong. I just started doing Longs In Store Customer Assistance calls (for at least one Longs). So if you hear Customer Service needed in analgesics - that would be me.

If it was me - I'm so sorry - it was never my intention to scare anyone. Truly. Seriously. Never would I intentionally scare anyone!

BOO!

Connie, so many of those who work at Target think of you as the "Target Lady” -- a computer generated voice. I tell them I know the real Target lady - and she is definitely a LADY not a computer. That usually gets me a smile or a blank stare. Do you do Starbucks; maybe it'll get me a free refill -- wait -- I get that already. At least I can say I know Connie.

I lift one to our very own Connie - the disembodied voice of retail everywhere...

Connie has become the Kevin Bacon of VO apparently.

So where are those sacks they keep bringing you?

Actually there are a few of us nameless faceless retail voices.

I met the Starbucks localizer for coffee yesterday (across the street from the Kensington Starbucks at Kensington Coffee Tea and Spice).

She is a very nice woman who has a full time job with benefits, vacations and an annual budget to receive training - a rare breed indeed. She does some other non-voiceover work for the company she works for but it centers around audio production (a large percentage is VO) - providing the voice and the finished files for all the establishments that use her companies services. She moved down here a couple years ago from the Northwest and tracked me down.

Oh, and I'm checking with my Post Office to find out what happened to the sacks of money.

Mary - apparently, yes, it was me who scared you. Please accept my abject apologies. Should I ask them to let me redo those announcements with a kinder gentler tone? Wink

Lately that "perfesser" voice has been doing a lot of sighing and whining (now that commands a lot of respect!). About twice as many folks in the class as normal and my curriculum (and time management skills) are being sorely tested!

Oh, and I am quite adept at sarcasm. I'm supposed to be handing out student evaluations this semester...maybe if I wait a couple of weeks and turn the charm on again for a while...

The last time I did any perfesserin' was as a guest prefesser in astronomy at Williams College a couple of years ago. It was a lot of fun, but I hated the grading part.

Save for the annual budget to receive training, I can relate to that situation. I've been asked several times to move to our own media group, but it's regularly nixed by our engineering dept.

/meh, the grass and pay is the same on both sides

No, I suspect they want you to sound like you mean business! Not sure what good it does to frighten an honest soul who just wants to try on a shirt, though. The shoplifters probably don't bat an eye! Rolls Eyes

I couldn't help but think that if they had requested the "perfesser" voice at Lowe's, the poor employees would think they were being called to the principal's office every time they were called to "assist."
