Assuming everyone has the capability to monitor visitors to their website, should I be concerned that someone in Colombia (S.A.) has visited my website, 3 times today?

If your Web server is local and you are truly concerned, you might want to go through some logs to see if there's been any port sniffing/scanning as of late.
Otherwise, just be prepped for some additional spam sometime soon... or better yet, a booking for your home studio for a traveling Christian Rock band from Africa or South America (that scam's been going around for a while). On a studio forum we've been having fun screwing with the folks that have been trying that one.

| You may want to change your password just to be on the safe side. Also, check the search "key phrases" as well as the "links from an external page" which can give a clue if someone is using your site to stealth direct to another site. Good luck with this. |

Dan,
I started seeing strange search terms and disc usage going way up. Also the word "cows*x" in mine. (I know...I live in Georgia...but try to forget that. lol) There were also links at the bottom of my pages and directories that I knew I didn't put there. My html files became much bigger and I noticed my file space had dropped a lot. I contacted tech support and they told me it was just my page. So, I changed the password that a 'bot" would have a tough time getting and then re-loaded the html pages. No problems since.
Now I check everything very carefully. Change password and re-upload the files. I check the code online too. Since I use lots of frames, I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I do know that code was added to every html page.

| Thanks, Bill. I guess the good news is I will be blowing up my old site very soon, so that should take care of it. BTW, I too have had some very strange search terms. Ones that would make Caligula blush and Larry Flynt scream "Why didn't I think of that?!" |

I wanted to document this for anyone who might have to deal with the same problem at a later date. It seems a third party found a back door into my blog and was routing users and files through my site. About four days ago, I received this notice from Google:

Yes, they removed my site from their search engine. That's obviously not good for business. I called my ISP and deleted all of my coding and had to reinstall from scratch. Then, I had to re-submit to Google and ask for reconsideration in order to be listed, again.
Let this be a lesson to all: Keep track of your site statistics and nip anything like this in the bud, before it becomes a real problem. |

| Update: As of today, my site is now being listed by Google. Making it a total of nine days without being visible to any Google user. |

Yep. I've seen office server ground to a halt because someone filled up their hard drives with warez, d00d. It was all embedded with filename characters that were difficult to just delete normally, too.
