Let's hear opinions and experiences from vo talents out there on what is a going rate (s) for voicing telephone messages or "sold-on-hold" telephone spots. And please tell us if you are in a large, major market area or in a medium or small city/town. This should be interesting. In the Dallas area, North Texas region, rates are varied but range from a per-script fee to a per-hour fee. The per-script fee averages $40 to $45 per script and usually a vo talent gets to voice four or more scripts per call. The per-hour rate varies from $50 to $150 per hour and often is a two-hour minimum call making the trip more worthwhile. The AFTRA rulings on telephone messages states that if a company uses a recorded voiceover telephone message longer than six months, the talent is entitled to get paid another session fee. I do not know if anyone is doing this, however, or not.
Thank you

I charge on a per-page basis because I sometimes have to work in a haphazard fashion, and can't really log "hours".
The per-page setup has a diminishing scale, where the price per page goes down the more pages there are. It pretty accurately matches what the fee would be if I logged solid hours of recording and editing.

I do very little telephone work for third party companies. I do a lot of telephone work with small businesses directly. I charge for each message up to 30 seconds. The first message has a premium fee, and the subsequent ones are less. |

I charge $75 per page. I also define what a page is with the client before we start work. And that defintion is, minimum 12 point font, preferably Times New Roman, double spaced. If there is one sentence on that page or a whole page the rate is the same and then they own it forever. I'm not good at finding out who is running what for how long so I try to get the cash up front and move on.
Good Luck
