Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I've been MIA for a bit as I've been traveling a lot and then came down with a really nasty sinus/flu thing (lovely).

I'm off to the airport . . . NOW! I will post again soon and let you all know how I'm getting settled in. Thanks again for all your support!!!

Hey guys!

Just thought I'd let you know I've made it out to LA and have been having an awesome time already!!

I'm signed up for a 5-week character class with Pat Fraley (drove to this week's straight from the airport--oy!), and am getting together with my commercial demo producer on Tuesday to start going over scripts. Other than that I've just been getting out and seeing LA, trying to figure out where everything's located and such so I know how long it takes to get from point A to point B.

I will definitely post my demos when they're done so you can have a listen!!

Welcome!!!!! Glad you're in town.
Sorry for our dreary weather, but not to worry it'll be sunny an warn in the next few days.

Just remember the 20 minute rule: when ever someone tells you that it'll takes X amount of time to get someplace add 20 minutes, or 45 minutes if you have to travel on the 405 Freeway.

To add to Bob's list
1) El Cholo on Western & 11th or in Santa Monica on Wilshire & 11th for the best Mexican food in town.
2)The Dresden -on Vermont in Los Feliz for a cocktail and a nice little prime rib diner. Go early on a Friday or Saturday, get a booth in the lounge and catch Marty & Elayne's show... it's a gas! http://www.thedresden.com/
3) Katsu-ya (11680 Ventura Blvd) for Sushi, or anyplace along Ventura Boulevard's Sushi Row in Studio City.

Need more or help getting around town let me know!

Be well,

~Mike

Oh my gosh, Katsu-ya is like crack to me. I don't think I've ever made a trip to LA without visiting. Spicy tuna on crispy rice, tempura rock shrimp, yuzu cocktails . . . heaven. Is it terrible that I prefer the hipster-y Hollywood location?

My other favorite LA eatery is the Griddle Cafe. Again, one must brave the hordes of scenesters (there was once a 20-something girl there on a Sunday morning with what looked like an entire coyote draped over her shoulders), but for Oreo pancakes I can do it.

Yeah, the traffic thing isn't too great although the rental car place upgraded me to a Prius for no extra charge, and I really love driving around in that thing! I am definitely padding my travel time--I've made it on time everywhere so far, so hopefully I'm getting the hang of it! I might head to West Hollywood from where I am (Studio City) as well as drive out to Santa Monica & back during rush hour, just so I know exactly how miserably long it takes in case I ever need to get somewhere during that time.

Since your staying in Studio City
Then you must go to the Daichan (11288 Ventura Blvd Ste F) the food here make the Japanese living here home sick, it's more like Japanise soul food Sooooo good, you'll love the atmosphere too. Nothing wrong with the hipster Hollywood locations, they're fun.... for a while.

If your ever running late use your cell and call you next appointment and tell them your running late, it will buy you 20 minutes; you'd be surprised how many people don't call and come sauntering in like they're 10 minutes early, and the wonder why everyone is pissed at them.

Traffic has been much better these days since gas is now $4 a gallon, but for the most part rush hour is from 7AM to 8PM.
When going to WeHo just take Laurel Canyon over. On a good day 15 minutes or less to get from Ventura Bl to Santa Monica Bl, on a bad day 45 to an hour.
Depending where you need to be in SM, 45 to an hour and a half.

The biggest trick on the freeway is plan ahead! Don't wait till the last second to try to get over to the exit, be there two exit before- it really does help. And when in heavy traffic use that as your relax time, keep 4 or 5 car lengths or more between the guy in front of ya, cank up the tunes enjoy the view.

I always check this site before heading anyplace:
http://www.sigalert.com/map.asp?Region=Greater+Los+Angeles
This will give you up to the minute freeway conditions. I've asked receptionist to check this site for me when heading to other appointments, places that I frequently visit have it booked marked, and often ask if I need a traffic update.

Ray,

sounds like it's going well already! I wish you the absolute best out there.. it can be a fun place.

When you want to take a break, head up to Griffith Observatory (open every day but Monday) and take in the exhibits and show. I wrote all of their exhibits (but not their show)... it's a great place and the view is fantastic on a clear day or night.

one of my clients is about 10 min drive from GO; when I come out there, I always make time to visit the place and the friends I made when I worked with the GO staff a couple of years ago.
