Would anyone recommend her telecorse? It's an 8 week course in the comfort of my own home. Has anyone taken it? Is it worth the price (rather steep for me) of admission?

Chris... I'll get back to you on Susan in the middle of next week. I'm actually going to be sitting in on a teleconference that she's doing. It's certainly a marketing tool for her, but I'll be sure to give you my review. _________________ Brian Forrester Voice Overs

Brian,
Is that the one on February 1 from Noon to 1.30pm? I was offered that course as well, but I can't get out of work to do it. I have the vacation time, but my boss said that I'd be leaving the office in a lurch that day. I can't do that. _________________ Christopher G. French

Truthfully Chris, I don't think that you'll be missing too much! I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that she'll be providing some usefull info, but probably more shameless self promotion, I certainly applaud her for doing it though!
I'll give you my review next week. _________________ Brian Forrester Voice Overs

I'm fairly certain that a teleconference is not the way to learn. If you insist on taking classes you stand more chance of getting something out of them if they are conducted on a one to one basis or in a small group.
My suggestion to you would be to practise all you have been told to practise so far and hang on to your money. |

My two cents here...she's certainly a pro when it comes to marketing her seminars and training courses. Whether you'll get anything out of a long distance telecourse at around $500 a pop is questionable. I've stopped taking her "newsletters" as they're more self promotion than news. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

I'm sure many others here would agree with me...if your looking for any type of teleclass look into Edge Studios offerings. They can be a bit expensive, but I believe it's well worth the money and time.

Save your money and use it on airfare for private lessons in NY, LA, or Chicago.
In the meantime, keep practing, practicing, practicing, and practicing.
V/O is acting and you can't learn acting from a book nor over the phone.
I bought her CD set because I wanted the resources in it, but I wasn't concerned about the training. Her approach to contacting agencies wouldn't work in my market - it sounds like a telemarketing call versus networking. At least in this market, no one has time for that.
Email me, I'd be glad to provide you with more details.

Chris... As mentioned... practice, practice, practice is a very big key to fine tuning your skills. I also feel that listening, and taking action, is very important. Some of the cheapest advice I found for you was in this previous post...

Hillsdale College has a swell theatre & speech department - heck, they've even got Introduction to Broadcasting, and The Performing Voice, and all kinds of acting and directing classes. Get over there now, before the semester is in full swing and it's too late to sign up! Classes start Wednesday!! You probably have a job somewhere though - make some arrangement with your boss and just do it. |

I, too, agree with Bud and Drew. I participated in one of Susan's "Bootcamps" for V/O's. It was very informative and a good push in the right direction. But above anything else, she is a marketing genius.
One-on-one is the way to go and if possible in person. I also agree, that the Edge Studio people, David Goldberg and the other instructors are very professional and worth the money if you want to do tele-classes.

And what Susan puts into marketing, Edge puts into facilities, genuine care and tools to help YOU.
That's why Susan holds some of her weekend Bootcamps at Edge Studio! |

I looked at the Edge Studio's website and it's one [bleep] of a lot cheaper than Susan Berkley. I think when ye ol' tax refund comes in, besides taking my wife on a li'l getaway, I'm going to be signing up for one of their tele-courses. It certainly can't hurt.
