This is a specific demo for those clients looking for a regular guy, guy next door, etc type.

So should one have a demo like this or is it too far out of the box? |

#1 I really really really like your sound, your attitude, your style.
#2 Most of the time, meta-demos are a complete turn-off.
#3 Your idea is NOT a complete turn-off but it came close to getting the gong. It needs a better script.
Perhaps a hint of the other side of the phone, but that's a production choice. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I turned it off at the halfway point. Not because I hated it, but because I heard all I needed to hear. You gave me one vocal style in the first 20 seconds, so I didn't need to finish it. I got the gimmick, cute. but now give me something else.

Thanks for that input and kind words.
1. A better script would help I agree, just don't have anything handy at the moment.
2. Maybe incorporate this into a demo as the regular guy so there's not so much of it Jeffrey?
3. Peter Griffin?!.☺ I like that. I didn't mean to do that but after listening for it.... your'e right he does lurk in the shadow.
4. Meta Demo.. OK that's a new term to me. Gimme the lodown.
I did this as an experiment in noncommercialistic style as I laid it out in the verse. "Everyone is looking for the regular guy, someone real. I could have put some commercials in it, but that stuff in the past and it's not theirs." I have a tuff time making scripts mine, personal without sounding commercial. So I'm going through the process of getting the commercial guy or announcer out.
If I can hone it down, with good copy that I can really feel myself about and a few production elements I might come up with a style demo, which is what I think (?) I may looking for. See I don't even know what I'm doing yet but I kinda know why. I should have titled it "Finding Me". ☺
Anything else? |

Everyone says they are looking for that regular guy or girl sound but have you ever noticed that the sentence always precedes a rejection? People will simply hire the voice they want without qualifying their reasons yet rejections are sometimes so complex or cliche they beggar belief.
Your demo is fine but it brings nothing to the table, yours or theirs, it was an interesting exercise.
You will drive yourself mad trying to second guess the market because when you hand it what it wants on a plate, it's what it wants ok but it's not you it wants to do it. |

Interesting exercise is pretty much it. I'm always just trying things to see if I stumble on to something. Hope things in Scotland are green and getting warmer this time of the year. |
