Up here in the Northeast, we say "Root" for route. Embarrassed

Does anyone have a breakdown of where it's Root and where it's Rowte? Just thinking about it, cause I'm doing a mammoth MOH today for a company with stores all over the place...it would be a time saver to have a map of where it's said how, don't cha think? It's one of those little words that prick the ear in a spot or a MOH that scream it was done by "an outsider"....ya know?

why not do a pickup using the alternate pronunciation after you've used your preferred one?

if this is to be used in multiple markets, that would make the most sense to me.

/both are grammatically acceptable

I agree that Alternates are fine for occasional phases, but in a huge MOH job that word can come up A LOT!

Personally, I'd stick with "root" throughout the script and if the client comes back with a few of their clients that request "rowte" just re-do those.

THEN, you'll know for the future!...and you'll be able to share that info with the rest of the class Wink

Taking a break....client got back to me and wants "root" throughout. The store is HQ'd in New England which may be why.

It's one of those "value added" things I like to bring to projects...like asking if they prefer DAY-ta or DAH-ta. I know route is a regional thing...just thought it would be cool to map out those regions for future reference....and Lizard, yous right...it comes up A LOT ...okay back to the mic.

Standard American English unless otherwise directed- as you were.

Unfortunately there is nothing "standard" about how some clients want their scripts pronounced!

Ya go with the flow...and what the client wants! Rolls Eyes

What if it's legal, or medical?

/couldn't resist. Semper ubi sub ubi.

How about technical?

/you every TRY to read that jargon? I have degrees in it and even I wonder WTH they're trying to say sometimes.

That depends on if it is medically technical or technically medical.
