I DID see their tagline and thought of you, but hey, they don't speak Ancient Latin, so it's not as classy.
The thing that puts me off about these guys is: Try finding ANYTHING about Egg and Cheese Productions..... not a lot - unless anyone else knows better? And..... the slant is on MISadventures, which is a pretty big red flag in my book. |

This is one of my biggest nightmares - a reality show about voice actors.
Hope it never gets picked up.

It's almost guaranteed to be agonizing.
Full-tilt schadenfreude for everyone whether they know anything about the biz or not. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Isn't anything with the word "misadventures" always a bit suspect? I was hooked until I saw THAT word. It reminds me too much of sitcoms. *Cheesy Announcer Voice* "The show about the crazy misadventures of two wilderness survivalists and a bear, it's. . . .(insert sitcom music here) Mauled!!!!! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll change the channel, then you'll flip back again when you realize you just saw a guy's arm get torn off!! Yes, it's Mauled, coming this fall to Fox!"

"Misadventures"??!! What, he sprained his tongue doing Pat Fraley's patented East Indian dialect? She broke a mic diaphragm saying 'the preponderance of polypropylene was palpable'?
Ah, Hollywood. |

I have a feeling that the majority of us may not be eligible.
The Ad reads...The show will follow the misadventures of seventeen upcoming voice over actors and their attempts to get their foot in the door of this crazy industry. They may disqualify anyone who has actually been paid for doing a VO. I would think that having been paid for any kind of VO job, would be classified as having gotten one's foot in a door. I could be wrong (not the first time), but I just can't see them considering people that already have some or most of the equipment needed to do VO work at home. Does that make sense... or am I out in left field?

That's very specific compared to the rest of the posting. I find it odd and suspicious for some reason. meh. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Christopher French... opportunity is now knocking.
(I would... but I'm getting too old for misadventures.)

Yup. Who's producing it? What company is producing the games? Who's putting up ten c-notes? The company with zero web presence outside of their Craigslist ad?
Still...as Deirdre said, what's another CD mailout? _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Well, I do have a CD burner on this computer. I have about 10 dry reads that I've done, 4 or 5 produced pieces. What the h-e-double hockey sticks? I might as well see what happens. As long as I don't get eaten by a bear, what's the worst that could happen? _________________ Christopher G. French

Pardon me for posting such a long exerpt, but this totally rang a bell with me on something I read in the ActorTips newsletter a few weeks ago. It concerns TV, not VO, but I believe the concepts may dovetail nicely. Here's a cut & paste:
2. CAN REALITY TV LEAD TO AN ACTING CAREER?
by David Lepeska, star of CBS's "The Amazing Race"
"Hi Chad, I want to be an actress, and I was wondering if
reality TV is a good or bad way to break into the entertainment
industry. Thanks, Kim Mahair"
Kim, the answer is yes and no.
For beginning or struggling actors, taking part in a reality TV
show can definitely get your foot in the door -- I was on "The Amazing
Race" and had a mid-level agent and manager in LA weeks
after my season started airing. You'll meet people in the industry,
perhaps do a few talk shows and interviews after you've lost or
been eliminated. You definitely get the feel of being a celebrity
from all of the attention of being on primetime television and
chatting with the media, which does wonders for an actor's
oft-bruised but ever-inflatable ego.
So if you land on a reality TV show, you will probably get an agent
-- although not the one you want, most likely. And you'll also get
a dose of fame, but, in my experience as well as that of others I
know, these trappings of industry success don't necessarily
represent legitimate respect. In 2002, when Gary (my fellow racer)
and I were shopping ourselves around, reality TV exposure did not
gain us a great deal of legitimacy with casting agents and
producers (we did get close to signing a sitcom deal, but our
reality TV status may have actually scared them off), and that was
three years ago.
I'm sure reality star fatigue has grown since then, probably for
good reason. After all, what acting had we done? Very little. They
had seen us performing various tasks, mugging for the cameras and
occasionally bickering theatrically, but could our talents and
personalities translate to scripted drama or comedy? Impossible to
know for sure.
Additionally, there is the question of integrity. Would any
self-respecting actor who believes deeply in his own ability submit
himself to the often embarassing and usually degrading rigors of
reality TV to further his career? My experience suggests that
serious casting directors don't think so.
However, in the last few years an entire industry has developed to
allow reality stars to continue being a version of themselves in
front of the camera. Hosting game shows, returning for sequels and
special all-star seasons, and making guest appearances give the
more popular reality stars a chance to extend their fifteen
minutes. But, is that what you want? (I didn't, and neither did
Gary, although he has found some success in the industry, working
behind the camera). There's not much acting involved, and my sense
is that the returns -- both personal and financial -- are
diminishing.
So, yeah, there are worse ways to break into the entertainment
industry, but in my opinion being on a reality TV show is the best
way to end up with a career in reality TV, not one as a legitimate
actor.
***************
Sorry again about the length, but it seemed like a good bit to toss in. take it with a grain of whatever. |

My two cents: don't submit a CD unless you truly want to be a part of this depressing caper.
Better to script, act and produce a show right here. Guaranteed to be better. |
