I haven't been around here because I was doing flood and crisis management at my little lake home in Wisconsin. I came to town a week early to get the place ready for a couple rentng the place for the summer. The last week has been pretty much a nightmare but it is better now at least here, for me. You may have seen the TV coverage of Iowa and Wisconsin flooding from a parade of storms. What an experience to live through...alone at the time. (rest of the family arrives tomorrow)

The weather guy just announced we've had 11 inches of rain in the past week. Well a little sunshine goes a long way. Dry air is predicted to be moving into the region for the next several days. The groundwater level is still very high and while there is no more water in the basement, there is a little seepage. You can still see the moisture in the concrete. But now I am armed with a sump pump, (Home Depot was sold out and got one from my plumber) just in case the "swimming pool" returns to my basement.

Things are definitely getting better, for me, and I no longer feel like crying all the time, or overwhelmed. I successfully sandbagged around the hot water heater and re-lighted it for the second time since I arrived... and can finally take a shower. The shower drain (which was plugged) is also open for business. My telephone service is reconnected and there have been no power outages in 2 days. There are still some area roads and portions of I-94 closed due to high water. But this too shall pass. Soon I hope.

Drying out...Just the simple things that can make one so happy.

I felt at times like I was on the show "Survivor".
My personal experience is nothing compared to what others have lost. I am thankful to all my friends , clients and family who have offered their understanding and compassionate support.

FEMA is in the area now and working with flood victims.
I've seen unprecedented occurences during this "500 Year Flood", and I pray it will soon be over for others who are still dealing with their losses.

Some real good news....I am booked for an ISDN session Thursday here in Milwaukee, and that makes me really happy so I can afford the plumber's bill!

Bobbin,

My heart goes out to you and all with which you've had to deal. I pray it continues to improve for you and for the others near you.

Bobbin,
i feel your pain. i went to college in Findlay, OH and it flooded a lot. We lived close to the river and our basement always had enough water in it to go fishing. I am glad those days are over. but i do miss seeing those people who think they can drive their 4X4 through 4 feet of water. it never fails.

I am certainly appreciative of all these good vibes.

Today, rivers are still over flood stage, some roads and bridges are still closed, and there's a 130 mile detour between Milwaukee and Madison. I'll be back here again to be posting happily, but have much to do in the cleanup process and I'll be driving to the airport to get the family later today. I love sunshine!

I keep it in perspective. At least I am not in Cedar Rapids IA.

Bobbin,
I'm sending dry sunshiney vibes from the North East. Wow. What an overwhelming thing to go through by yourself! Hope skies and basements stay dry, rivers stay in their beds and go back to sleep, shower drains stay unclogged, phone lines stay open and ISDN session goes amazingly well my friend.

Bobbin... wow!!! I'm sorry you've had to go thru this!! Where in WI is your cabin? My husband grew up in Beaver Dam (about 45 minutes from Madison), and his Dad and one of his brothers still live there.

I didn't realize WI was getting hammered. I better pop them an email.

I hope things dry out soon!!

Bobbin, yipes!

Yes, this too shall pass. And dry out.

And remember, if you find any leaks or holes, just plug 'em with Real Wisconsin Cheese!

I'm sorry to hear you were caught up in that mess. I heard about the flood from my sister. I grew up in Fond du Lac, WI! They had flooding up to their waist in her basement. Frown

Oh Bobbin! Not fun!

My heart goes out to you -- and I'm sending you buckets of DRY AIR!!

We're waiting for the water to crest way down here in St Louis, but I'm sure it won't be as severe as it is upstream.

And yay! ISDN!!!
