Is your city in the top 10?

A few years back, I was in Vegas in mid-July. Now, I'm someone who LOVES heat - really and truly, the hotter, the happier - but I must admit, it was freakin' hot there in July.

Courtesy of the News-Press, FORT MYERS: Old Spice has announced the seventh annual Top-100 Sweatiest Cities List to mark the beginning of summer. Fort Myers is number 10.

The Sweatiest Cities rankings are based on computer simulations of the amount of sweat a person of average height and weight would produce walking around for an hour in the average temperatures during June, July and August of 2007 for each city.

The top 10 sweatiest cities from Old Spice’s list are:

Phoenix, AZ
Las Vegas, NV
Tallahassee, FL
Tucson, AZ
Memphis, TN
Miami, FL
Houston, TX
Tampa, FL
Baton Rouge, LA
Fort Myers, FL

Columbia SC should be on that list. I never got used to the heat/humidity combo there.

Interesting. I lived in Tucson for years and would have put Houston WAY above most places in AZ for the sweat factor. It was always so dry there, even at high temperatures you never got sweaty.

I am shocked, yes shocked, that St Louis is not on the list. We always make the top 10 for stuff like violent crime and highest obesity rates. To be overlooked for such an important list is an outrage!

And our legendary humidity -- oh, don't get me started!

All I know is that I am trying to record a 51 page script for a videogame and I'm having to break every 5 pages to fall out of my studio gasping for air so I can wipe the buckets of sweat from my face.

Sorry to be so dramatic, but I think all scripts over 3 pages should be recorded in January! My next house will have a silent-ventalated studio...and hopefully the next house will be here soon!

Charlotte, NC is HOT!

OK, back to my sweatbox.

I hear ya, Kara. All of my equipment is IN my studio, so it gets a little toasty in here as well. I'd say about 30 minutes is my max time that I can take in here. When I'm doing an ISDN session, I open the door while they client/engineer are chatting, then close it when I have to record.

Funny you should mention this. My husband and I were just talking last night about having the AC guy come out and put an air duct in my studio. We were also talking about removing the doors that I have now, putting a sound proofed wall there, and then putting a real double-paned studio door in at the end of the "room." We had just come from Randy Thomas' house and he got to see her studio... so we were full of ideas!!!

But, the AC is a priority... and do-able.

Funny how our studios become a priority, eh? My husband likes to joke that we bought this house for the house, but we'll buy the next one for my studio space Smile

Our fingers are crossed that we can start looking for my next studio (AKA: house) in a couple of months!

I like Bob Souer's studio...he has nice cold air piping in at all times, and you can't even hear it!

Anyone have a basement studio? Aside from the flooding threat in some parts of the country I'd think that'd be an ideal spot.

OK Bob kindly share with the class the manufacturer of your AC system...I'm on a hot 2nd floor with a swamp cooler coming out of a vent in the roof and a small fan under my desk. It almost works....but then again if it gets over 50degrees I sweat anyway..
My next STUDIO/abode will have a basement studio....and I need to move somewhere cooler these hot summers are awful here in UT....I can't even imagine Vegas or Phoenix.....I'm thinking the northwest might be a good place.

Good News for those who love the heat. I live in El Numero Uno Sweat City, and I have plans to move to cooler climes some time next year. My house, with a lovely 11'x12' studio already built in will be available and we're in a great neighborhood with everything you'll need close by.

It's a Bryant system, but that's not the reason it's so quiet. It's because of the energy star construction by Cambridge Builders. Every one of the houses they built in this subdivision is just as quiet as ours.

Like I said, I love the heat. But, my husband likes the water, so I don't guess he'd want to move to Phoenix, unfortunately. How "cool" would that be to buy a house with a vo studio already installed???
