Here's another addition to the studio re-do party. Mine has come about due to our move to a new (very old) house only about one half mile from where my wife and I have lived for the past 10 years.
The new space gets me out of the basement (and away from crickets) into a 2nd floor bedroom with a central tower. The recording space where the desk and mic are located is the tower itself,..5/8ths of an octagon. The recording space is a little "live" at this point, so this weekend I'll be making acoustic panels from 1" Owens Corning 705 and burlap and hanging them about an inch out from the wall. This should tame some of the low-mid/upper-mid bounce that I'm hearing now.
I'll start a new thread and post up some pix as soon as it's all presentable.
Best is....I now have...a WINDOW! Loving it. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Chuck
You may know this already but thought you might want to know this. If you soak the burlap in a solution of water and Borax, it will make the Burlap more fire resistant. I have found the solution formula on line for this.
Then again this may not be an issue for you.

Thanks Ed. The Burlap that I ordered was pre-treated. I live not too far from the "Station Nightclub" where that terrible fire occured during a Great White show a few years back. All the press has made anyone involved with music or performance very aware of fire-safety issues. No foam here. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

You are doing the right thing with the 705. It will last a longggggg time and when you want you can recover for a new look _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

I decided that I didn't like the odor of the burlap and was told that it never really stops shedding. Was that false information - about the shedding? The odor issue is something else of course.
I just bought enough fabric (at a few dollars more per yard than burlap) to upholster the ceiling and the acoustic walls - and the upholsterer came by to see what he was up against! The room is temporarily back in order with sound going in and out correctly - but the system will need to be broken down at least once more to get the walls covered correctly.
How cool that so many of us are doing this! _________________ Playing for a living...

Gotta chime in on this one. We just bought a house, so yes, time for a new studio. Should be all finished by the end of the week.
Anyone else?

Must be something about it being summer and just too darn hot to be outside, so my wee basement huttie is getting some attention too.
Connie, I love what you're doing!
Could that mask thingy be used for a pop filter????

Me, me, me!
I've been on gosh darn fetchin' flippin hold for what seems like forever to have new windows installed in this 102 year old bungalow. New all around upstairs, where studio is, and sash and direct kits in the old pre-hungs downstairs. New doors downstairs, a new float and paint of the terrible texture that is the hallway downstairs which snakes upstairs, and then I'm expanding from the current studio space, which is an old attic (acoustics are most excellent) to the adjacent room, too, where I may have 2 work stations or recording areas or who knows what. I'll be asking for your guidance, Frank!
While I've been waiting to nail down the windows (not really--vernacular, dontcha know), I got antsy and called the Tongans to come bust up and remove the broken, decrepit patio outside the back door. It's now rubble and I intend to rebuild a step and put down a flagstone patio in the spring. Sprinklers and a small bit of biograss in the desert climes, plus some xeriscaping and border shrubs and sheeott. It IS all related; I plan to rent the other bedroom, downstairs, as an office, with all the amenities such as kitchen, bath, garden space, and a futon or some sort of convertible sleeping quarters for the officemate to have at her/his disposal. This way, I can command a reasonable rate for office rent and halve my expenses.
Now living in sin 2 miles from here with my fiance _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!
