Anyone had any real world experience with this box? Telos has substantially dropped the price (per BSW quote). I have yet to work with any studios that have one. The fact that it needs a bridge with anything other than another Zephyr IP is the ever present issue.

Yes.

Personally, I think they had someone design it who didn't know jack about IP or they had specific design requirements they opted to take public. It's limited IP implementation at the time of release was woefully inadequate and left little to be desired. I don't know of any single network engineer who would bridge their network to support one device, however, I'm sure they exist and this is what someone potentially thought would be a greater reality. Is it easier, yes, but you lose the entire flexibility of your network under those terms.

The group I was working with, at the time, took my advice and went with the Comrex offering. Neither product was really all that great, but when you look at long term usage, the Comrex unit was clearly more flexible.

That kinda mirrors what I've heard about it. It's gonna be interesting to see what emerges as a standard IP box, especially since in places like New York copper is being replaced with fiber optic at a pretty good pace. I much prefer ISDN but a viable option will have to present itself sooner rather than later with the telco upgrades going on.

I really believe that the new IP box is on your desk now. As ISDN is phased out the PC/Mac will be the hardware that will be adopted.

Source-Elements will most likely take the market regarding software.

The real deal will be to see compatibility between CODECs that way a Source Connect Standard user can connect with AudioTX, and with stand alone units.

Aincha glad your telephone doesn't work like an ISDN?

If they did, a Sony phone wouldn't work with a Panasonic phone unless the call was routed through a third party. Oh YEAH - gotta like that!
