The client arrives at the airport and walks into the VIP lounge, an attendant asks to see his ticket and then shows him the way to the regular passenger waiting area. The client protests.
“Excuse me; you’re flying Coach with a budget airline!” says the attendant.
“Everyone else in here is getting good service” moans the client.
“Everyone else paid $1,000 or more for their tickets”
Here’s the way a Voice Over session works. Client approaches my agent, offers job, negotiates fee and I am told where to be and when. At the very least in the studio there is an engineer, the client, the director and I, Philip Banks “ready-outty-loudy” person. During the course of the session we collaborate to get the best out of the script and then we all go home happy. Needless to say thanks to ISDN my attendance is virtual. It also goes without saying that the quality of product and service is first class under these circumstances.
Remember that MP3 client? You read and recorded, self directed and edited the script he sent didn’t you? You did the work of at least 3 people for the price of less than one you must remember that. Do you remember the client’s response? “Mmmmmmm not quite right so do it again but faster in the slower parts with …..”
Of course it was a matter of taste but you did the work of 3 again but this time free of charge. Why did you do that? Next time try being an attendant in the VIP lounge at an airport; check your client’s ticket. What next? Clear your throat and say politely.
“Excuse me; you’re flying Coach with a budget airline!” Then offer to upgrade his service for the appropriate fee. |
