|
|
One never knows where these things will strike, but it does appear that Hurricane Faye (I think that's the name) can't really miss us here in SW FL... we'll have some affects no matter what. They say it should be in this area by Tuesday afternoon... hurricanes aren't polite though... they're always late.
The day was spent buying batteries, water, propane for the grill, tying up our boats, and trimming trees - you don't want all that stuff blowing loose into a neighbor's window (though, there are some neighbors I wouldn't really care if it did... but I digress).
Monday, if it looks like it's going to hit us, we'll move porch furniture, plants and all small, loose things inside, and barricade the front doors that tend to blow open with a good hard wind. And then pack up the dogs and drive away on Mon/Tues if need be. I've not made a hotel res yet for out of town... will wait till Monday am and see what it's doing.
Hopefully not... I have to work!
Best of luck to others on the Gulf Coast! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

If you have to run as far as Atlanta, you can stay here, Caryn. Good luck...batten down...and have a h-e-double-toothpicks of a hurricane blow-out. |

Why thank you!! So nice of you to offer!!! I love ATL, btw!
We've never had to actually "run" (for Charley, which did almost hit our house, we happened to be in Chicago... for the others, we've just hunkered down here)... but when I think we might, I just make a res at a hotel more north and inland - Gainesville and the like.
I have to say, places (b&bs especially) that don't usually take dogs are really great about taking them when a hurricane is coming. People are really wonderful in times like that. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Caryn,
Best of luck to you and all on the Gulf!
Know how scary it can be. Was evacuated from Key West in '98 for Georges while rehearsing a show. We "rode it out" in Boca and returned before the general public was allowed back -- remember the aftermath well!
Hope this one deflects as far from causing damage as possible. _________________ --Michael

Oh, Caryn, just hit the road and you'd be here in MA in no time. We have too much room (and trying to sell), a great studio to play in and LOVE doggies. See, you'd be all set. Plus I cook too much and we could even do Yoga For Voice Talents. And Doga (doggie yoga), of course.
In all seriousness, I hope all turns out well. Sending the good vibes... _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Yeah, stay safe. I experienced Hurricane Dolly down in Brownsville. Quite a ride.
Stock up, and don't let the eye fool ya. There's more fury behind it.

Heh... Drew, that is actually our go to site. My hubby and I rely on wunderground... they have the best tracking. I actually haven't checked it yet this am... but I just heard on the Weather Channel that the Keys is evacuating visitors. But, honestly, TWC tends to exaggerate info.
And, yes, I do go to Sanibel... or well, I try. I actually live just a mile from the Causeway to the island. Sadly, even though we're so close to the beach, I rarely go. Beginning this summer, I made it a priority to go at least once a month... so hubby and I have been taking the pooches over and going for walks on the beach. Definitely look me up the next time you're in town!!!!
Thanks everyone. I'll keep you guys posted! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

This is great to read, Caryn...inivte's open if you need it, but good to hear that you have options, too. Had picked up that you have critters, and knew that many times people and agencies are less than hospitable about taking in pets. (Katrina, anyone?) We have a nice, big fenced yard and a nice big extra room for visiting four-footers...plus 4 of our own that like having sleep-overs.

Hang in there Caryn...these storms are fickle things... you may just get a little too much rain, and a strong wind...
on the other hand...
