Recently (yesterday and today) I had a little "run in" with Big Telephone Company or a.ka.: AT&T over Customer Dis-Service and mostly for a charge of $26.98 for NOT using their services.
After four hours plus of attempts to get someone who cared, I finally spoke with a "live" person whom promptly dismissed the trumped up charges. However, there were numerous lies and excuses for BTC's over abundance of phone prompts which lead to never-never land or disconnected the calls. Promises were made and not completed by the BTC (AT&T) and then were lied about later.
If you are shopping for long distance service - I suggest you choose almost any company other than BTC (AT&T).
Your BTC stories are welcome as I prepare to take action against corporate America - my way.

Note: I have been careful not to post the complete story here, but there are volumes in this epic saga. I take full responsibility for my comments regarding AT&T and in no way does my opinion reflect those of the beloved Board Mistress or the VO-BB as a whole or in part. Yes I know the lawyer boys from BTC will be reading this. so take heed, I am coming. _________________ Be thankful for the bad things in life. if it wasn't for the fact that I've had issues with Sprint, Verizon, and a few other carriers who are no longer in service, I'd be right there with you.
Something about large companies always means that their products and service usually suck. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I have never had trouble with them with regard to landlines (the AT&T Mobile service is a different beast).
Back when they were AT&T originally, they kinda sucked, Then 'round here it became Illinois Bell and they sucked less and less over time. Then it was Ameritech and I have to say their service was downright fantastic. Now that it's AT&T again (how'd THAT happen?!), and having just dealt with them for a new set of lines at my office, again, I have to say I had pretty great service from them.
The sales person was so personal I felt like she was an old friend. An installer called me about 15 minutes after I placed the order and said he was in the area and wondered if I wanted installed right then even though it wasn't on the schedule for another 5 days (I'd have taken him up on it except that the building's phone closet was locked and the landlord out of town). Yesterday was the scheduled install date and the installer was here at the time promised, did all his work, cleaned up after himself (including vacuuming) and was very friendly the whole time.
I also don't remember ever finding charges on my phone bills that I didn't expect.
But I guess this is where YMMV comes from.
(NOTE that this all applies to voice over landlines only...I don't use AT&T for DSL because I've had such good luck with Comcast for net service) _________________ Lou Zucaro

Mine was for ISDN Long Distance. Which is interesting as I am now told they did not have an order for my ISDN LD, and that they do not supply LD for ISDN.
Interesting.. And the plot thickens.

My understanding is your kinda stuck using AT&T, Sprint, or MCI for ISDN long distance. They're the only ones that have 64K digital capability per line all the way across the country. I haven't had a problem with Sprint in all these years, other than their forgetting to drop my rates when they dropped rates system wide awhile back, but all the telcos do that.
