It's just silliness is all...you could let it bother you, but what do they know? As a wise man once said "When a mad dog barks at the moon, it doesn't affect the moon in any way, but it makes the dog look like a jackass."

There always have been and always will be people who think they know more than everybody else, because they're too ignorant to know better.

It's inevitable that younger generations will continue to get whinier and whinier, since technology perpetuates a society where what were once luxuries are now considered necessities. That will continue as long as technology progresses.

And the "Oprah generation" loves to see themselves as victims. Get over it, quit yer crybabyin' and get to work like the rest of us. Or make music and sing about how terrible your life is. I'm sure you'll have legions of screaming kids crying for you while you ride around in your Continental GT between mansions.

(meant as generally humorous jabs...no actual hatred was used in the writing of this post)

Hate to break it to you, but that would be the Boomer's kids known as Generation Y. As in, Y don't you pull up your pants? Xers are now approaching or in their 40s. Laugh

I'm over it now, of course, but it always dismays me to see more and more hatred being spewed forth against any group -- and one as wide and diverse as a whole generation of people.

It's a disturbing trend that so many use media and technology to spread ugliness instead of beauty, to foster ignorance instead of wisdom.

Yup. When Nirvana broke big, I was 23 and didn't think of myself 100% as an "adult". Doesn't seem that long ago, until I turn around and read that the baby on the Nevermind cover is now 17. Oy vey.

Scary, isn't it?

I remember seeing their first video on MTV... back when there was only one of them.

And they only played music.

I'm 35 and therefore not a boomer and not a kid. I must be timeless.

I find it very interesting that the older-than-me folks are crying "ageism!" by the youth of today, because they are being disrepectful. I guess boomers feel they have a right to that respect simply because they are alive and older. Quite the sense of entitlement, I must say.

And we've heard people of all ages make fun of the youth of today for their saggy pants and choice of music. And somehow that isn't ageism?

I guess my point is (and yes I have one): Age has nothing to do with getting my respect. I don't respect you simply because you've lived longer. And I don't respect you just because you're of my generation.

I respect you for what you do and what you contribute. And that has nothing to do with age.

Maybe if we stop labeling people, it would be harder to know where to sling the mud.

OK... Everyone who experienced 25¢ per gallon gasoline... B&W TV... the 6¢ coke bottle... AM radio only... and everything closed on Sunday but churches... Stand on this side of the line.

Glad Dan-O brought that up. I was gonna say sumpin' but everyone was on such a roll... mmmm... hoagie roll. Smile

Kafer, I think that makes you a Gen Xer. I'm 36... I'm an X.

Edited to add: I kinda take Kafer's stance. I live around a bunch of elderly folk - I am (or was for a long time... I think I still am) the youngest person in our hood. Had a little disagreement with our elderly neighbor a few years back, and our neighbor across the street (we call her Nosey Nellie) got on my case b/c I was "...disrespectful... he's an old man." He might be old, but he's still a jerk.

Totally agree with the rest. Respect is a two-way street and far too many people use their age as an excuse to behave poorly.

That goes for both sides of the fence.
