Just needed a bit of a rant. Sitting here in my boiling apartment (last month's electric bill was $360 for a place that's about 800 sf, so we're keeping the AC off for now) with a towel draped over my head trying to get a decent sound and there must be an entire fleet of helicopters going by outside. Every time I think they're gone, they come back and ruin my take once again.
GRRR.
So, how are you all doing today??

Seems to me you've got a thing for putting things on your head.
A fish, a towel...what else? Gallon of milk? _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Girl, this was going to be my gripe yesterday! A jackhammer down the street (turned out it didn't bleed in but i could still hear it), digging up the street next door, leaving the big trucks idling and just when I thought they were taking a lunch break, they brought in more equipment. And, finally, they went home. But the neighbors chose just then to blare music (again, didn't bleed into the studio, but...) and the 2 year old wouldn't stop for JUST. ONE. MINUTE. PLEAASSEEEE cause the client needs this RIGHT NOW. Every time I thought I'd get a minute to voice, I'd run up to the studio and be all out of breath. It was certainly one of those days! Hope your's gets better! _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Conflagration of the wild kind had copters overhead here for a few hours, postponing everything.
Somehow I managed to avoid filing to while away the time. Wonder why that is?
Huh. What's my post count? _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

You might want to call the Lone Gunmen about those helicopters. Especially if they're black! |

I hear ya.
Repaving work, landscapers mowing and blowing and trimming, fire engines, construction on the new homes up the road, police cars, dogs barking, kids playing and splashing in the neighbor's pool.... ah, summer in the idyllic suburbs.
Winter's better. Snow is quiet.

Whoa--that's pretty bad. How big is your place? The $360 seemed excessive because we only turned the air on for a few hours a day--maybe 3 or 4--and our bill is usually around $180.
Anyway, helicopters are still flying by intermittently so I've given up on getting anything done for the evening--I'm going to rent a rehearsal space for a few hours tomorrow and just hope no one is tap dancing or playing the tuba in the room next to me. . . I would try sitting in the closet, but there's barely enough room for another sweater in there, let alone an entire person.
Sorry to hear I'm not the only one with sound issues!!! |

I had C130s flying overhead last Friday. Seems like one about every 10 or 15 minutes heading west to east. I figure they were going from the base Mississippi delivering who knows what to Florida after Fay. Anyway, making lemons out of lemonade I took the day off and went sailing. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

jealous. I miss sailing. Long story on that but I'll just share that my dog knows his port paw from his starboard and how to come about b/c he used to sail, too. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

An inquisitive cat tonight...I was doing a VO for an original radioplay and the character is supposed to be pounding on a desk. So, before I started recording, I rehearsed pounding on the desk... and the cat jumped up and started wrassling with the mic cord!
She was quickly shown the door... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I am guessing that the apt is about 1200 sq. ft.
We found out that the mian problem was that the evaporator was almost completely blocked...ac was working overtime... at our expense...eeek. _________________ Does life start at 40? |

i don't know how you "young folks" do it.
choppers (both kinds), yelling kids, street construction, noisy pet co-stars, and ego-maniacal neighbors who feel they must share their musical choices with the world...
...and heat and humidity...and deadlines looming (or past) !
aside from the physical discomfort, how much harder one must work to keep all that out of the performance.
i'm much more thankful now for my cool house, my absent neighbors, and a nicely crafted mic booth that even filters out most of what's going on as they tear up the same patch of street outside for the third time in a month.
consider yourselves all the more "pro" for putting out a performance your clients want to pay for, even with all those other handicaps. you have my admiration. _________________ rowell gormon
