|
|
Hello Everyone,
I have a question for those that may own the M600 and are not on a solid concrete or floated studio floor as recommended by Las Vegas Pro Audio (dealer of the M600). I really like this mic mount, however, I am in a 4x4 booth raised off the floor with a caster plate with a 1/2 thick rubber mat between the booth and the caster plate. The floor the booth sits on is on in the house is a regular floor with floor joists and a basement underneath.
The question: Do any of you own the M600 and not have floated floors or concrete floors? And if so, do you regret getting it because the added sensitivity to mechanical noise or vibrations? Just wondering. I know Mr. Browne is a member here so anyone is free to answer if you have some info. Just trying to get some user comments from the field.
Thanks!

Hi Ben,
This probably won't help in answering your question, but I thought I would offer this bit of info. I have the M600 and noticed that my noise floor went from -60 to -63 just from using this mount. I also noticed a tighter sound throughout. I have a Whisperroom and the house is built on a slab.
Yesterday I sent Mr. Brown a couple of files comparing the Telefunken AK47 with the standard shock mount and the M600. He was kind enough to call me about an hour later. We had a nice talk for about 30 minutes. He said he'd like to post my test on his website and wanted to know if it would be OK. He also told me there was a new product in the works for a stand that would hold a mic arm using the same principles as the M600!
He also told me he has sold 14 hundred M600's and out of those has only had 1 return. That says something!
Take care,

Well, I like it enough that I have two of them now specifically for VO.
And no, they're not always used in a true isolated environment. Still, it's noticeable (especially when mixing), though not as pronounced as when you're using a true studio environment.
I've also seen the new stands. They're pretty impressive, building upon the M600 design. I'm not quite sure how they'll work in a standard home studio, but on principle, they'll work like gangbusters in a studio, based on the design.
BTW: I want to clarify something that SkinnyJohnny said, because I know someone will come in here and bring it up. The M600 did not lower his noise floor for the room. You cannot lower the ambient noise of a room without treatment/architecture changes. That said, what the mic's noise floor was changed because the M600 reduced the vibration it was subjected to. It's the recorded and perceived noise floor that dropped, as the noise floor has to do with sum of noise sources and unwanted signals within a measurement system (in this case the mic). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I know I am not supposed to say this, but...
Enhanced Audio set me up as a dealer. I should have a shipment of M600's in my hands in the next two weeks. I also have two of the APS600's, the stands that are designed to hold the mic arm or "angle poise" as they call them over there in the UK, available for sale. They are part of the initial production of four units. One is aluminum un-anodized, and the other is black.
Contact me directly if interested. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Think a little higher.
$795.
If they work as advertised (and I have every reason to think that they will based on the design), then it'll be worth it for those of use using a studio environment. Not so sure about the folks using them in their closets, but it'd be worth checking out.
For me, I'm waiting to see these used in a studio before making a decision, but I have every intention of snagging a pair of them if they work.
There are two types of stands (aside from color), the first is one which uses a spring loaded swivel, much like you'd find on a desktop spring stand, The second is much more like a traditional studio boom. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Pricing has NOT been announced for the APS600 yet. It will be somewhere between your two guesses, which is just the stand, nothing else. With this stand you just add your Mic Boom (Angle Poise) and mic mount, an additional M600 is not completely necessary since the benefits of the M600 design are built into the APS600. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Pricing was given to me by David at VOICE 2008. He stated that he was selling them for $695 at VOICE, and the cost afterwards will be 795. I'm hopeful that you're right in your statement as I'd hate for cost to become the major factor in people's decisions relating to the purchase of this product. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser
